Almost There
I'm getting very close to completing my training for the Rocky Raccoon 100. I'm still very busy with training, and I will continue to be for about 1 more week. Then, the dreaded taper. Here are some notes from recent happenings:
1. I, again, saw a lone black wolf on this week's long run. It was, again, quite close. Ho-hum, another day, another wolf.
2. My gym is closed for 4 days. What is up with that? How do you just close a gym for 4 days with no warning? Hello, people have workouts to do! I'll be improvising just a bit for the next few days.
3. This past week, I went downhill skiing. Yes, clumsy, uncoordinated me, downhill skiing just 4 weeks from my race. What a daring, stupid act! I had so much fun (And I didn't get hurt, only cold.) that I wanted to go back the next day, and the next, and the next. I now know how I'm going to occupy myself when I'm resting after RR100.
4. We solidified our travel plans for RR100. My mother is my crew and my sweetie is my crew/pacer. I'm pretty sure that my crew will be the bestest! Oh, and after the race, we'll play for a few days in Austin and a week in Big Bend National Park. I'm so excited!
5. In just a few days, I'll start my last class for my Master's degree. I almost never thought this semester would arrive, but I am really, truly almost done!
6. I had a bit of a hip scare, but I think I'm out of the woods now. In my left hip, my tensor fasciae latae seized up tight and sore about 2 weeks ago. With a lot of TLC, I was able heal it while continuing to train. Then, my left piriformis began having issues. I'm happy to report that this issue has also cleared up.
I suppose that's about it for now!

Very exciting Meghan! Great to hear the training is going well and you are almost there...safe and sound and healthy! Hope this last big week goes well and then you survive the taper...sometimes the hardest part... :)

I don't know whether the RR or the Masters is more exciting! Way to go on both!

I REALLY wish I could be there in Texas. (I will be sorely testing my boss's patience this year with vacation and personal leave.)
I snowshoed with Carol G today and she told me not to give up on SJS50. Said a freind last year "in the high 30's on the wait-list" got in. #43 is a bit beyond that, so I'm still not optimistic, but I won't write it off.
Hope "yer ma" takes plenty of pix at RR.
You are the #1 Energizer Bunny, woman! Really inspired by you holding down job, training, racing, school, X-country, a relationship - and a blog!!! You rock, and you will rock and the Rocky 100!

Aw, you guys are so kind! Thanks for all the good wishes!
Tom- Thanks! Hey, are you going back to Capitol Peak next weekend? I *think* we will be there also.
Bob- Thanks! I sure hope you can figure out how to uninjure/heal yourself soon. PF takes an aggressive approach, though! Good luck!
Audrey- Thanks! Oh boy did I ever TLC my hip! We're talking hours of stretching, yoga, icing, heating, massaging, tennis ball rolling, hours of standing (as sitting aggravates the piriformis), etceteras. It's totally changed my perspective on injuries, though, and what I can work my body through if I'm willing to make the effort.
Michelle- Thanks! I kind of feel the same way. RR100 is right around the corner and finishing my Master's is about 4 months away, so I have 2 great things to look forward to!
JeffO- Thanks! I didn't know you were signing up for SJS50, but now that you have, I wish you had gotten in and I hope that you still do!

Ooops!
Beth- Thanks and sorry I missed you the first go-round! I've previously hated the taper, but this time I feel I've been working so hard and spending so much time working out that I'm looking forward to tapering and resting. Boy, do I need it!

Glad the hip stuff went away. It's such a pain to get things right in the weeks before a race.
What's up with the lone black wolf? He wuvs you. :)

Kendrabowowow- He does wuv me. Or he wants to eat me. It could go either way. ;)
