Road Shoes!?

Fellow trail runners, try not to be shocked and appalled. I promise that I'm still a trail runner. However, there comes a time in every trail runner's life that they must lace up a pair of road shoes. Training for the Rocky Raccoon 100 is one of those times.

oh, you KNOW you like them!!!!
in a strange reversal, this road runner (me) actually has to go buy trail shoes for use with my snowshoes. is that what you use with your snowshoes?

Okay, but I can't tell what kind of road shoes they are...

OMG! I was off the grid since Thursday and look what's happening.
Road shoes?! There goes the neighborhood.
My friends keep trying to get me to do Racoon, but I keep saying it's too far away. My mantra: If I can't drive there in a day it's not worth it.
Did I ever tell ya I lived in Kerrville for 7 years? I was 1 y.o. when we moved there and 9 when we left. So I speak fluent Texan.
I know you'll do better than I've done, Meghan. You're much younger and in spite of your fewer years, you've been running for more years than I. Not only can you finish, you can do so with an impressive time.
Uh, but don't get cocky. You're totally right - big difference between 50 and 100. In fact, I'd say a 100K isn't that hard. Going beyond 70 miles is where things start becoming exponentially difficult, and beyond 80 miles is where so many people crumble. Besides myself, I've seen or heard about dozens of people DNF with 15 or even 1 mile left.
Good luck.

Have no idea about this shoes (I mean, the idea of training in them is good, but for RR? it is actually trail, unlike AT or JJ or Umstead...or a few other), anyhow, you look awesome in this picture! I can see those legs burning up the course!

Thanks for the nice comments everyone!
Audrey- As a trail runner, I usually wear road shoes about once a week. I'm now gradually trying to make the conversion to wearing them more frequently, and it's kind of painful. My body has been used to floating on comfy trail shoes for so long...
Michelle- Eh, you're guess is almost as good as mine. Brooks of some sort. :)
JeffO- You can drive to the RR100 in 1 long day. I'm going to drive to Texas in 2 long days from my house. :) I will definitely take your advice and remain as humble as I can be. I'm fully prepared to get floored by this thing.
Olga- I'm using road shoes for training, and I might even race in road shoes! Me thinks (via Internet research and first-hand knowledge from a friend) that the trails/jeep roads are wide, flat, and non-technical. Unless of course it's muddy, then that's a whole 'notha story.

Great outfit, M! You are not only going to be fast, you're going to look fast even standing still. Into every trail runner's life some road shoes enter must, yes yes.

Bob- It's a tough trade off. Warm beaches and no trails of Florida, or nice trails and cold arse winters of the Rocky Mountains. Hmmmn.
Kendra/Yoda- I REFUSE to wear blaze orange while running in hunting country, so this shirt is my alternative. Besides, if I can't be fast, I might as well look fast. HAH!

Hey, no need to apologize for wearing road shoes. Don them with pride!

Hey Meghan -
I'm w/ him - GO ROAD WARRIORS!! All my shoes are road shoes, and I wear them on trail as well. A nyway, you look wicked fast in the pic (as Olga said)...sure you'll kick my ass at RR should I do it (I'm wavering between the 100 and 50 there)...you'll like RR - lots of great support, pretty easy but interesting course.
