Food For Thought

My sweetie took this photo of me descending from the higher reaches of Mount Holmes about a month ago. The elevation here is about 10,000 feet, and, although it was outstandingly beautiful, it was also bitterly windy. I clearly had my eye on the prize, the warmer weather below!
The pun created by the title above and the poem below is intended, yes it is.
As you travel down life's pathway,
may this ever be your goal:
Keep your eye upon the doughnut,
and not upon the hole!

This poem comes off as definitely silly and a tiny bit trite, but I still thought I would share it. This was quoted in a book I was recently reading, and it has stuck with me since then. It can have specific reference to running, but it also references the challenges of the rest of our lives. In running, I think the poem is telling us to set our views on the bigger picture or prize, and not on the little day-to-day battles.

It is so beautiful and peaceful! Even though I know how freakin' cold it is:)

Perfect "food" for thought. My mind has definitely been wrapped up in the little battles. I love your bee-line for lower, warmer elevation in the photo - you're a woman with a mission! No wonder Sweetie is behind you, he'd get run over! Once again, what a fantastic view. The bigger picture is always soothing, isn't it.

So beautiful! See? That's why I climb in the winter more than in the summer! And camping above treeline, with snow underneath me, is comfy. I can sit or lay all bundled up drinking tea and watching the sun rise and set on the landscape. Does it get any better? I guess having someone to share that with would be. Your "S" is a lucky guy.
I always keep my eye looking down the road at the prize. That's why I bounce back from things that don't go my way - like the DNF's at Leadville and the Boulder100. I'm getting there, getting there fast, pushing myself to the breaking point. Nothing great comes easy. If it's so easy then it's not worth the effort.
Here's some more wisdom:
Eat danish - there's no hole!

JeffO,
Your words of wisdom are so much better than mine. Yes, by all means, eat danish! There are no holes. I nearly spit coffee all over my computer screen when I read your comment, it was so entertaining. Thanks!
Olga,
Come to Yellowstone for a run!
Kendra,
Wait a minute! When I think of "eye on the prize," I think of your stellar Le Grizz performance. Your performance was one of mind and body over any momentary problem towards your goal. Keep yer' chin up there, darlin'!

By the way, donuts are my weakness. Like, if you ever wanted to distract me. Now you know.
