GRRRRR!!!!!
Picture me, with my face all crinkled up into a scowl, growling a big old "GRRRRR!!!!!"
No doubt, I'm injured. This just plain sucks.
Here's the story: I tested my foot out on that dainty, careful run last Thursday. All systems were go, and everything felt fine. I did no exercise on Friday, and everything felt fine. I hiked up and down a mountain on Saturday carrying about 40 pounds of aid station gear at the Devil's Backbone race, and everything felt fine. I did no exercise on Sunday, and everything felt fine. I ran a tempo run today, and everything felt fine.
Then, about 1 hour after I finished running, my foot felt like crap. Absolute crap. Maybe, possibly it's more swollen and painful than it was after the initial injury 2 weeks ago. Go figure.
Good lord, I've already lost 2 weeks of good training. What's next? Another 2 weeks? The summer will be a wash by then. I was planning to race this weekend. Obviously, that's not going to happen. And, who knows what else I will miss out on.
I'm peeved.
I'm not blogging while I'm injured because who wants to write or read about endless cross training.
Please, please, please send any extra energy you have my way. I need good, healthy, healing vibes like nobody else right now. Thanks!
GRRRRR!!!!!

not sure that any of my vibes could heal, but they're mighty friendly...you've probably already tried everything, but how about a day of ice/rest/ice/rest/ice etc with a couple of advil thrown in halfway through? And don't stop blogging - your crosstraining puts some peoples' regular training to shame :-)

I am definitely sending all the good vibes I possess your way right now as I type!!!!! I'm hoping that as quickly as this injury came on, is as quickly as it will leave. Hang in there Meghan and remember that cycling fitness transfers VERY well to running fitness...

Man, nothing worse that being injured in summer - good weather, daylight....I've felt like that this past month. My cure has been 5 days of rest on vacation, advil, ice, short (5 miles or less) easy runs, arnica cream and arnica pills and a couple of massages. It is finally improving! Who knows which of the things in my laundry list really made the difference, but I felt like I was working on it with all that stuff.

I had to come back because I remembered something else - shoes. I am sure my injury was overuse, but I also think my shoes contributed. During our runs in CA I got out my trail shoes to wear, then when we got home bought new ones. I went back to what I was wearing up until February - and I think it helped. It could be coincidence that I started getting better, but I think a big piece of it is how I land in the shoes. Any changes in yours recently? Or, do you need new ones?

Have some of my vibes: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And take some vitamin I (ibuprofen)
You seem to be doing everything right and still this happens and doesn't want to go away. Hopefully it will be like my stupid schitzo injuries where one day it's there and the next it's mysteriously gone. Like tomorrow would be nice. I have two freinds who do "healing touch" therapy. I don't know if that stuff works but wish I could send them your way.
Here, have a "healing blog-post". It's a new thing I'm inventing. (I won't even charge for this first session.)

THANK YOU to all of you for the good healing vibes! They are working! I still need some more, though, if you still have energy to spare!
UPDATE 7/17: I woke up today after my night shift and work, and began my usual obsessive foot injury probing. What was swollen and tender-to-the touch last night wasn't anymore. I also had no discomfort in walking around.
I read you smart people's suggestions regarding shoes, and realized that I did last Thursday's pain-free run in my Montrail Hardrocks (with a special heel lift insert as recommended for the strained tendon that I have) and Monday's pained run in my Vasque Blurs (with no heel lift).
Cautiously, oh-so-cautiously, I laced up my Hardrocks, wore the heel lift, and went for a run. A run that ended up being miraculously pain-free. Now, a few hours later, I still have no pain.
I don't really know what's going on, but I'm happy, happy, HAPPY! Thanks again for all the support!

Yay for Hardrocks! Yikes, I just corrected a terrible typo on that. Anyveys... you know "the darkest hour is just before dawn" - I'm sure your ankle is really *actually* on the upswing and it was just acting out a little to remind you that it needs lots of words of encouragement. As for speed workouts: running faster when a bear leaps out of the bushes where I thought a squirrel was? Hee hee. I've done a grand total of 3 track workouts in the past month or so, on a dirt track with uneven grooves, with no watch or heart rate monitor (it's depressing enough to see how slow the ground goes by). I did some 800's and 1200's. Nothing below 800 for me. That's my pitiful track ace in the hole. Hang in there, Yellowstone Chiquita!!

So what's up with the foot shoe girl? Are you dashing around in your Hardrocks or gimp'n and a limp'n? Don't be holding out on us.

Still sending healing vibes, Meghan.
As Darth Vader says, (loud breathing) "Feel the power of The Force!" Heal! "It is your DESTINY."

Hey. Come back! We need entertainment! Hope you're out running in the woods (safely) somewhere.
