Saturday- 1. 1:00 easy and hilly, in my neighborhood; 2. yoga 45 minutes
Sunday- 1. 1:30-ish snowshoeing (15 minute warmup, 10K snowshoe race, 15 minute cooldown); 2. CrossFit workout; 3. yoga 45 minutes; 4. core
Let the tapering slowly begin. This week, I'm cutting back a bit. It won't seem too obvious until I get to the weekend and the volume isn't there. I'm already feeling the pangs of the mental mind gaming that occurs during taper time. Anyone have some sedatives I could borrow?
On Monday's run, my legs actually felt awesome. We climbed straight up an 800 foot hill, came down it, then climbed up a 500 foot hill, and came down that as well. My legs were solid underfoot the whole time. After 1:45, I wanted to continue running. On Tuesday, my legs were officially dead underfoot. I was running with my new in-person blogging friend and I was happy she didn't mind the slow pace!
Well, I found my legs again on Wednesday and Thursday. I feel sharp and fresh and rearing to go. Thursday's run was interesting in a unique way. See my entry devoted to just that run. Friday is a snowshoe day and I'm itching to snowshoe! Bring it! It's been warm lately, so I hope there's snow out there.
This week turned out fine, just fine. My legs feel rested and strong and I just want to run!

Hey Meghan,
Just watched your video on the coastal challenge. Saw Beverly Anderson-Abbs in a few shots. (I actually know her) She was second at Western States 100 last year. Her and her Husband Alan Abbs used to do a lot of adventure racing. They now put on The Sunsweet Trail running festiville in Oakridge, Oregon. (30 miles west of the Where's Waldo 100k course.) (they are both sponsored by Sunsweet.) The trail running festiville is a two day event...
Saturday
5 miles uphill
4.5 mile screamin' downhill
in the afternoon, a 10 mile flattish run
Sunday
50K
Combine all the times and lowest time wins. Don't have to do all of them if you don't want. But you can win some $$$$ Heck I won some money, only because I'm old though. I think it is June 2nd-3rd this year. Bummer, I will be doing a 100 that same weekend.
Bev and Alan live in Red Bluff, CA but own a house in Oakridge. A huge mountain biking mecca. So, they can run and ride in great country.
You're a stud! Looking forward to your report and hopefully some pictures.

Meghan, thanks for your comments. This is cool that you're coming to the same races and we get to meet! I love meeting fellow bloggers, feels like we know each other:)
So you ran in Driggs? Do you know Lisa Smith-Batchen by any chance? I think if you meet her it would be awesome, she is a great ultrarunner, a coach and a friend.
No sedatives...use yoga. I get cranky when taper.
Oh, and by the way, the Sunsweet festival is cancelled for this year. Bev and Alan are both training for WS100. They thought of putting it up in June this year, but it would interrupt with their training schedule and take too much time/work. They are putting a 50k, I think in April, and it would be local (CA).
I hope you come for PCT50 if you can. Either case, if you're up for SS50, let me know, we could split the cost if you're interested.

Meghan -
I have been remiss in commenting although I have definitely been reading about all your adventures.
GREAT job in Oregon - I am amazed by your ability to run 34 miles, on trails, in the winter!! And good luck in Costa Rica, I am sure it will be a great time and a great race.
