I May Not Look Happy...

GX0U7861_t.JPG

...but, really, I am. This is about a 1/2 mile from the finish of the Goblin Valley 50K. The last mile of the course weaves through a trailess area of "goblins," or the crazy red, erosional rock formations that you can see behind me. Some of them seem to have faces; others really are shaped like ghosts and goblins; still others just look like some seriously weird rocks. Through this mile, you follow flagging stuck in the dirt, weaving left and right every 10 or 15 meters. It was my favorite part of the course.

On another note, I find it somewhat miraculous that I ran 1:13 on a dirt road with a 1000 foot elevation gain and then subsequent loss this afternoon with only a little residual soreness and no residual fatigue. In fact, I ran this course unintentionally faster than I usually do. Go figure. No complaints here, this makes me very, very happy.

That's an awesome photo. What a cruel place to take photos of such a long race! You look about 100 times better than I would even look at the start of a race, though.

It sounds (from the race and your recovery) like you are in fabulous shape!

Hey Meghan - AWESOME race! It's great that you had such a wonderful experience, were pleased w/things, have already recovered so well, etc... And the picture is superb! Congrats!

On a side note, have you ever thought of using one of those fuel belts (http://www.fuelbelt.com/) to carry fluid and all your nutrition? I always thought they would be awful to wear but they really aren't. Just a thought as it seems as if you'll be into the ultra scene for a while! :)

oh, i wanted to tell you. my foot hurt too last week and this weekend-and i'm 100% sure it's from "fashion" sneakers and flat dress shoes. both have no support and i walk a few miles a day to commmute and around school. i decided being cute isn't worth it at all and have put my running shoes back on :) my dressing up experiment failed (again).

i hope your tootsies are feeling better :)
