Feeling Better
It was nice to be back in my own room again after two weeks in other people's houses. It is always nice to be a guest for a little while but what a cozy feeling to be surrounded by all of the things that are familiar to you again. I slept in again this morning until about 9 a.m. When I woke up I enjoyed some of my music and then went out for an easy five mile run. It was so mild today. I was able to wear shorts and a long sleeve shirt. I might have been able to get away with a short sleeve shirt but since I am still fighting a cold it was nice to be a little warm. It must have been about 55 degrees. I ran my favorite 5-mile pond path loop. The course is about 60% trail and 40% road. The last 2 miles are on the cross-country course and the first mile and half are on the pond path. It is a little bit rolling. I made a point not to time the run and just run on effort alone. My legs did not feel tired at all. My breathing was still a bit labored and I was congested and coughing a little but my mechanics felt good. I was so relieved. It has felt like a struggle to run recently.
I had a quick lunch and then went to work at the library for two hours. I met up with the cross-country coach to catch up and then met some of the track athletes who have arrived on campus to train early. I ran another 30 minutes very easy with one of the woman who has a sore hamstring. If we had been running faster I would not have run again but I knew the pace would be very easy and I could not pass up the chance to run in this mild weather again. I was in a very good mood today because of the weather and since I feel like I am back into my own routine. Tonight I am hoping to write a running schedule for myself for the next three months and maybe relax with one of the books I am currently reading, the Perfect Mile.
