Amherst Bike Path Run
This morning I met two of the runners on the track team and ran the Amherst bike path loop run. We ran four about 55 minutes which was probably about 7 miles or a little less than that distance. I was pretty tired from a late night of studying for my exam but it felt so nice to be up and running first thing in the morning. I had to teach my pedagogy lesson this morning in pool running and things went pretty well. In my conversations with my friend, the head cross country coach, I discovered that the origins of pool running were derived from horse training. Race horses train in the pool when they are injured or to compliment their every day exercise. I found this fascinating and then found some pictures of pools for horses on line. Some of these physical therapy centers for horses also have treadmills in the pool where horses can run and these pools have a whirl pool function so that the horses legs can be massaged. Has anyone ever heard of treadmills in the pool for runners? I would like to try one. This afternoon I will do another trail run with the other runners on the team and then drive to the Catskills for the weekend.

Hi Liz, The pool running for horses is wild. You've got to see the picture of it. Here is the link:

Hope you get to look at it! :)

I think Alberto Salazar's group at the Nike Oregon Project has a pool treadmill. I've heard of it, but I imagine they're BIG bucks.

I've been on an underwater treadmill. It's not as exciting as you might think. I didn't find that it was any better of a workout than pool running (regular style), and it may have even been worse.

Treadmill pool running sounds cool but challenging. News to me!
