Tapering...

Tuesday and Wednesday

both easy days.
on tuesday i ran about 20 minutes with the team via the bay trails. they were having a pre-meet day run...nice and easy on the flat trails. the sky was very hazy and the air quality was poor due to the fires up north (napa area--i believe)...i was feeling really tired...from my general lack of sleep...and i think my long workout (run + pool workout) on sunday...

after my run w/the team...i hit the track and did an abbreviated track workout... i ran 5 x 400s with 90 sec. rest... nothing crazy...i just ran 83, 82, 81, 81, and 78 . it felt pretty good...but when i was done i felt
very tired.

this morning i got up early and ran w/my larkspur friend. due to lack of time...we cut it short and ran just about 5 miles....we ran nice and easy...it was dark the entire run...i'm still not down with these shorter days...but what can i do? later on tonight...i'm running another 3 miles very easy...after our high school xc meet....

tomorrow i plan on running 5-6 miles easy followed by some striders....
friday will be an easy day...
saturday another easy day

and then the big half marathon...
i m anxious to see how i'll do in this event...i feel like it'll be a realistic window ...helping me really set a realistic goal for the phoenix rock n roll marathon that i hope to do in january.... we shall see!!!

more later

Hi Liz.. I hope you enjoy your taper. I am really excited to see how you do at the Humboldt Half marathon. That is my favorite course. You just need to find a rhythm and go with it. The area is so beautiful that if you feel good you can definitely get into a zone and pick people off in the second half of the run. I will be thinking of you a lot! Nice job with the 400's! Good progression to faster speeds. Get lots of sleep!

How did I miss that you were planning to do PHX? How exciting. You'll be doing your marathon the week before Andy does his in Houston. We went out there last year to support my dad (and we bandited some miles in the middle.) Andy *really* liked the course, and I really liked the support that the town(s) gave the race. It was a little warm last year, but other races I've done there in January have been absolutely perfect.

Good luck this weekend. Half marathons rock!

Good luck in your half-marathon this weekend! I just spied you and your super-strong legs in Runner's World. Do you feel famous or what? Good luck! Meghan

jenandmats...i'm so glad to hear that andy *really* liked the course!!! i'm a bit nervous about it...but i'm also so anxious to run another marathon..and i don't want to put it off...plus two of my brothers live in Arizona so it's a beautiful excuse to run the marathon in this state...!

Meghan thanks for the RW comment!!! When the magazine first came out...my email box was flooded for a few days...with old friends writing to say hi..and to remark on the photo etc...that was awesome!!! & i'm so glad we (my twin sister and I) got to share the photograph!!!! i'm excited for the half...too...but also nervous about it!!!
thanks for the encouragement!
