pool running w/the xc team
wow-- what a challenge-- pool running with 28 teenagers. the track and field runners knew how to pool run -- but most of the students didn't. trying to give instructions while in the pool myself with the kids was pretty challenging. i ended up giving up and just trying to go around and individually check to see if students were "getting it". for the most part they did. they all seemed to Love the change of pace - environment- etc. they asked if we could "pool run" all the time... after a 10 minute warm up-- the tide changed and many of them were already complaining that they were dying...it was so hard...we still had the workout to do... for the workout .we did 7 x 1 minute pick ups with a 1 minute rest. it was funny to see everyone moving hard...in the pool the waves were getting high and for the first interval the kids were actually serious and really into the workout. once we hit interval 3 the atmosphere changed and kids just started talking to one another again and just maintained enough effort to get through the workout...
after about a 35 minute workout...i called everyone out of the pool and called it a day, i am looking forward to the next pool workout with the team... but boy was it more tiring than i expected...just being so vigilent and watching that many people in such a small area...i kept of felt like a damsel fish...!
more later
