Hill Workout
Tonight I ran 5 x 800 meters on a steep uphill near my home. The hill starts off with a slight incline, then gets a bit steep, then levels out a tad and then finishes very steeply.
My recovery was active. As soon as I got to the top of the hill I would turn around, keep running until I hit the start where I would turn around and start the next repeat.
I ran 3:50, 3:43, 3:39, 3:34, 3:22. My goal was to start off at a tempo pace and gradually pick up my pace. The first 3 felt great -- smooth , controlled, etc. The last two I really tried to get my heart rate up and push the steep sections. I felt good; and I think I can go faster next time.
I'll repeat this workout next Tuesday with the goal of running each of my 800s a bit faster and perhaps I'll throw in 1 or 2 extra repeats.
This workout is geared for xc and strength training. It should help me with marathon preparation as well as 5k, 10k strength ! We'll see...
