I think that I am back
There are a couple of reasons I haven't posted in a while. For one thing, up until last week I was strictly crosstraining. Crosstraining is boring, and reports about crosstraining are even more boring. For another thing, my job is insane. But I did have a followup appointment with my doctor last Thursday (11/11, there must be something lucky about that), and he sprung me from the boot and said I could start easing into running.
Which I have been doing, bit by bit. The first couple of "runs" were really walk-1minute-run-2minutes treadmill sessions. I thought it would be great, with me flying along easily, but boy am I weak, even with all the crosstraining! Especially glutes and quads - I was pretty knock-kneed the first few runs, and I still fight it when I'm tired.
At first the "running" was so negligible that it didn't make a dent in the crosstraining, but it's slowly getting to the point of actually being part of a workout rather than just a 15-minute novelty. Today was great, really the best run I can remember in months because it didn't hurt. Tomorrow is our club's long-run day, and coach said I could run 8 miles, whoohoo! I can't wait. Of course I won't be able to keep up with my old training partners, but I'm still looking forward to it.
