Exact revenge on your bad races
by cutting up the t-shirts from them and using them to wipe up newborn spit up! It's therapeutic, I'm telling you. Right now I'm using last year's Freescale shirt.
We have a new addition to our family. Finally! Little MG came by C-section last Monday night - a week and a half late, but otherwise perfect. The best way I can describe how it feels is to compare it to a version of the movie Groundhog Day, only the day that's repeating is Christmas morning back when you were a kid. Every morning you wake up and you think "she's here!" and you're up and running over to see what she's doing. And there are several moments throughout the day like that. And every day you get a chance to figure her out and fix the mistakes you made the day before ('cuz we're definitely making mistakes.)
I hadn't planned on the C-section, and I was surprised at the mild disappointment I felt that things didn't happen naturally, but I can't really complain. It was painless and I didn't have to make any tough decisions, meaning it was pretty clear that she was not going to come out the "right" way without a real fight. Although the recovery from C-sections tends to be longer, there are some aspects that are better than the natural way. If I may say so myself, our baby is absolutely gorgeous, with a nice round head and porcelain skin.
MG was born at 4:30 on Monday afternoon and I was up walking around, slowly and awkwardly the next day. I still have some pain, but it's pretty localized, and I also have a prescription that helps. The day we got home I thought I might not need it, but by that afternoon I couldn't talk above a whisper without hurting my lower abdomen. I can't drive for two weeks (can't slam on the brakes if I need to) and I can't lift anything heavier than MG for two weeks. My doctor didn't say when I could start running again! Right now it's obvious that running's not smart, but I've taken MG for a few walks around the neighborhood. Feels good to get out and move around. I'd like to start yoga again, ASAP, too, but the pain that's left is in a place that might make it painful. Maybe I'll try a modified version.
We got a decent amount of sleep last night, which was *very* nice. It's not looking likely tonight. She's been asleep for most of the afternoon and evening. It could be a long one ...
