29 Days

... and then we're done. That's not long. Unfortunately there's no telling what those 29 days will be like.

I hit 20 miles again this week. Strong work, I know. That's four runs and 24 strides. My last stride each time is 200 yards or more across the MoPac bridge right before I finish up at the rock, and I've had more than one comment about it from complete strangers. Earlier this week I got a "you go girl!" from a woman going in the other direction. A little while back I got a "good run" from some random dude. I just happened to be in the middle of a stride when I passed a guy I've been working with on a bill, and later that morning he commented that I really was movin' when he saw me. Makes me wonder why I even bothered running 80 miles a week when I can get all kinds of attention with a few strides. I mean, seriously ... who needs to conquer the !@#$ marathon when you can impress the pants off of people by looking like a badass for 200 yards?

Looks like Steve's group may be shaping up really well in the next few months. Some of my good friends are giving it serious thought, and I think we'd all thrive off of one another. I think maybe a few years ago it would have been a lot more competitive than it will be now, although I can't say I'll be completely noncompetitive. But we've all been friends through running ups and downs over the years, and I think I've gotten a lot more comfortable with my competiveness over the last few years. I think it's easiest just not to fight it - I just don't think it's something I can change - but I don't let it get the better of me like I might have when I first started running. I hope we all do good.
