Rhody Run
A great day on Sunday this week.
N and I decided to take a day trip to Port Townsend to run the Rhody Run 12K. Of course I wasn't expecting to run fast becuase I finished my 20 mile run only 24 hours earlier. Looking at the previous year results though I figured I should still be top 10, so I started out in a small pack and 14th place overall. I ran very comfortable with this pack until the middle of the 3rd mile and then pulled away from them on an uphill. My goal was to feel comfortable the whole way through the race and not even think about my pace or finishing time. I didn't even where a watch! I did hear some of my splits though 5:58, 11:51, 18:14, 23:50, 29:26, 34:33, 40:13, 42:44...keeping in mind the course profile this was a good effort throughout. I probably didn't need to chase down the last two guys. though I did feel very comfortable in doing so. Overall, I gave the race and the day a 10. If you're looking for a great community race and a nice day trip to boot, this is the run! I'm sure we'll be back next year.
I'm still deciding exactly how to taper for my marathon (June 17) since I'm not running all out and I want to continue training through the marathon. Since I'm only running 40 miles per week its not likely that I'll do any taper at all, maybe just a week of no speed heading into the race.
