Rhody Run

A great day on Sunday this week.

N and I decided to take a day trip to Port Townsend to run the Rhody Run 12K. Of course I wasn't expecting to run fast becuase I finished my 20 mile run only 24 hours earlier. Looking at the previous year results though I figured I should still be top 10, so I started out in a small pack and 14th place overall. I ran very comfortable with this pack until the middle of the 3rd mile and then pulled away from them on an uphill. My goal was to feel comfortable the whole way through the race and not even think about my pace or finishing time. I didn't even where a watch! I did hear some of my splits though 5:58, 11:51, 18:14, 23:50, 29:26, 34:33, 40:13, 42:44...keeping in mind the course profile this was a good effort throughout. I probably didn't need to chase down the last two guys. though I did feel very comfortable in doing so. Overall, I gave the race and the day a 10. If you're looking for a great community race and a nice day trip to boot, this is the run! I'm sure we'll be back next year.

I'm still deciding exactly how to taper for my marathon (June 17) since I'm not running all out and I want to continue training through the marathon. Since I'm only running 40 miles per week its not likely that I'll do any taper at all, maybe just a week of no speed heading into the race.

5 track meets, 2 twenty milers, 2 12Ks, and a half marathon in 15 days!

No wonder my head is spinning...on Sunday I'll be going to my second 12K road race in two weeks, tomorrow I'll be running my second 20 mile run (at least that's the current plan), and today I will be attending my teams 5th track meet in 10 days, throw in the Kirkland Half Marathon last Saturday morning and its no wonder I have barely slept at all trying to keep up with school work.

A ridiculus week that I'll have to make sure to somehow plan better for next year. Maybe a full week of movies in my classes.

Speedy Week

This week is really flying by! In addition to my normal crazy daily routine I'm trying to enjoy some of the great weather before we go back to rain. I've done two speed workouts this week, which I guess is good, but not exactly marathon training. Someone said something about Yasso 800s yesterday on the track so I guess I can sorta call that marathon training even though we only did 6 of them and I'm not shooting for a 2:36 marathon! Anyway they felt really good and I think the Tues/Thurs off this week has been better for me than the usual Mon/Thurs. Next week I have 3 meets to go to (W, TH, F), so not sure how that's going to work out, plus I have to fit in recovery from Bloomsday.

Sat: 6 miles, Central Park
Fri: 7 miles, North Loop

A new and sunny week

Yesterday I decided to jump in with our distance crew for their taper workout. I had forgotten what most HS track workouts are like. Seriously who warms up for 2 laps at 9 minute pace, does one 50 m stride and then steps to the starting line for 67 second pace quarters? Luckily I had done 7 minutes of running before that so I was able to avoid injury but it certainly wasn't the most pleasant way to run a workout. My body was in total shock after the first 400, especially since the guy leading the pace went out too slow and we ended up running 35-32. The cool-down by the way was 2 laps.

Today I'm taking an off day.

Miles this week: 4 miles, YTD: 741 miles, $ raised for LLS: $1695
Tues: 0 miles
Mon: 4 miles, 3x400 (68,67,64), 2x200 (32,33), 400 (75), 200 (36)
