Happy New Year

Well I didn't quite make 2600 miles this year as expected back in early October, but I think I'm at least getting on the right track the past few weeks. After hitting rock bottom (16 and 18 mile weeks), I will finally be back up to 40 miles for a week after today's run. I have a pseudo-race next weekend that should push my weekly total even higher since its a 25K.

Miles this Week: 40, YTD 2K5: 2320.5 miles; YTD 2K6: 8 miles
Sun: 8 miles, TT
Sat: 9 miles, North 8 loop +
Fri: 5.5 miles, TT
Thurs: 9.5 miles, Central Park + 52nd Ave Hill
Wed: 0 miles
Tues: 8 miles, IPROnB
Mon: 0 miles

Only 2 more weeks until 2006 the year that James outruns Alison

The parking meter is running out fast so not much of an update. No work this week or next so hopefully a big boost in mileage. A few minor pains to monitor with an increase in mileage, but nothing to worry about right now. Its only 15 degrees in Spokane so I'm not heading home for Christmas until the last minute so that I can keep running in the 45 degree weather here.

Mid-Week Update

Its pretty cold here, but no snow and tonight it was clear skys and a bright moon, so it was still fairly light when I ran at 5 pm. A nice bonus for finally getting out the door today. So the good news is that I'm 13 miles ahead of last week, the bad news is that I won't be running in San Diego this weekend, and Alison won't be there to guilt me into running for 2 hours on Sunday.

This week has been anything but relaxing. I have worked myself to the bone and feel like I've gotten nothing done. The more I do this week though the less stress during the next two weeks during my Christmas vacation.

Thurs: 7 miles, Central Park
Wed: 6 miles, 5x800 (2:57, 2:53, 2:49, 2:45, 2:43), 1x100 (3:19)
Tues: 0 miles
Mon: 0 miles

Footlocker

My 3rd annual trip to San Diego was another success. Its like going to running camp in December. The sun was again in full force and the races were great, as well as the food and hanging out with friends new and old. I'm not much for name dropping, mainly because I'm terrible with names, but I was really excited to be with some many people that enjoy the sport as much as I do. The food and sun are just like whip cream and a cherry on top of the ice cream.
The running is also soooo much easier when everyone is doing it and the weather is so great. I'm not real happy with the 15 miler I ran on Sunday, I still hurt, but its a good reminder of how out of shape I've gotten and the my urgent need to get my slacker butt back in gear.

Back in Seattle now and back to the grindstone, but only 4 days left until the start of Christmas break. So I'm looking to get 24 miles by Friday and then another 16 over the weekend, 40 for the week. It doesn't sound like much, but its a big step in the right direction for me. Then I can shoot for 45-50 during the two weeks off from work. After this weekend, I realized just how much this break is needed for me and for my students.

Week Total: 28 miles, 2222.5 miles ytd
Sun: 14.5 miles, Short Island Loop plus Coronado Cays n Back
Sat: 6.5 miles, Island Loop
Fri: 7 miles, Island Loop+
Thurs: 0 miles
Wed: 0 miles
Tues: 0 miles
Mon: 0 miles

The Slacker continues to slack

I haven't been able to force myself to get out and run this week at all. I'm pretty sure I won't have that problem this weekend in San Diego. I'm going to have to figure out just how out of shape I am and start training soon. Afterall, my training needs to get me in shape to run a sub-3 hour marathon in mid-June without pain, and a sub 2:40 marathon in early September. I should get at least 20 miles this weekend, which despite not having run at all this week will actually be better than the last two weeks. So anyway, maybe I'll be able to get up to 40 next week and then run some 50s during my christmas break. Afterall if I'm going to beat Alison in 2006 (mileage wise) I'm going to need some base training.
