District Champs!
My running has certainly suffered the past couple weeks, but at least some things are going well. The girls won the district championship on Friday 74-73. And we have 6 athletes that qualified for the state meet next weekend. I'm still hoping to get back on track running wise soon. I've dug quite a hole with my 80 min/day goal, but I do still have all of June to climb out.

District Meet
The slacker continues to slack, but I'm holding out for greener pastures soon. Our district championship meet is today. Top 4 will qualify for our state meet. Its 84 degrees, which is darn hot round here. Might have to get the hose out for the 3200m runners.

Meet Management
For some odd reason I "volunteered" to organize half of the League Championship meet. What that really means is that all of my free time and a lot of the time I should be doing work is eaten up. At least I know their won't be any mess ups for my athletes. :)

"It will hurt"
Why when I said that didn't I set my goal a little lower. I took today off to let my ankle and knees get a little break. Too much high jumping this week, combined with a jump from 50 to 60 miles.

New Streak
James' new streak which he'll hopefully stick too. In honor of cracking 1000 miles for 2005, I'm starting a new streak. Notice I started the streak on a good day so I could be ahead already :) The new streak extends through June 30th. I don't have to run 80 minutes every day though, just keep the average above 80. Unfortunately because my mileage has been down, this is going to hurt. I'm not planning any speed for at least two weeks 'cuase going from 50 miles per week to 70+ is a big jump. I feel fairly heathly though so as long as I keep the miles relatively slow I think I will be alright.

Flash Flood warnings
Running in the rain quite fun given the following circumstances:
1) No lightning
2) The rain starts at least 15 minutes into the run
3) Mud puddles are plentiful
4) You have dry clothes at the end
5) The temperature is above 60
Today's run satisfied all 5 conditions.

What is Rolfing?
After spending nearly 11 hours at the track yesterday I went to the school auction, where I volunteer to enter winning bids into the computer. The side perk to this job is that items that do not sell are up for grabs at the minimum opening bid. So in addition to 4 hours of electrical work for my mom (mother's day), I purchased 1.5 hours of Rolfing. So far what I've heard about it is a little scary, especially since I'm pretty much a wimp when it comes to massage pain. I'm thinking about giving it to my brother for his birthday gift unless I start hearing some good things about it. Anyone tried it?

Old
The pain I'm feeling from the 18 x 120 has been quite bad. I think I'm too old for such runs.

Lacking Motivation
Race Report:
Well the race went well, I guess. I didn't feel very good though, I think maybe I should have left the Lost Energy Drink at the store or at least not mixed energy drinks by downing a Sobe Adrenaline Rush also. I'm actually used to the both drinks, I just haven't ever done both and don't really know why I did today. It wasn't a good idea though and I could barely drink any water during the race because I was fairly nauseous.
Compounding my poor choice of pre-race drink was the severe lack of racing or even running hard for the past 6 weeks. I was pleasantly surprised to come through the first mile in 4:59 and the second mile in 10:09 feeling fairly comfortable. Of course the first two miles are a bit downhill and miles 3 & 4 are signficant uphill. From past experience I've found that no matter how slow I go out I die on these hills so its just best to go out fast and try not to die too much. I missed the 3 mile marker, but clicked in at 21:29 at mile 4, giving me 5:40s for miles 3 and 4, but still 5:18 pace for the first 4 miles. I knew with "Doomsday" hill ahead that sub-40 wasn't going to happen, but I felt pretty sure of getting the sub-41.
The 5th mile is net downhill and is right at the beginning of "Doomsday Hill". I tried my best to get back on 5:20 pace, but only managed a 5:26. I was still feeling pretty good though, just no motivation to really push. I don't remember feeling like I was hurting the whole race! I needed one of my rivals to come up along side me. I didn't recognize anyone that past me though and I couldn't see anyone ahead of me that provided any motivation to chase them down.
Doomsday was pretty quick and I felt great at the top. One of my sub-goals of the race is to pass more people in the last 2 miles than go past me. This provided me some incentive to pick it up. Mile 6 (up the hill) was 5:57, and mile 7 was 5:30. At 7 miles, 735 meters to go, I had been past by 2 runners and past 0 so I needed a big kick to pass 2 at the finish. I clocked in at 2:18 over the last stretch and finished in 40:40. My goal was to run under 41 minutes and I was successful. But I think if I had felt a little better and more motivated I could have gone at least 40:15.
On another positive note I avenged at least one of my 2nd place finishes by nipping the winner of the St. Patrick's day race at the line.
I'm probably most happy that I don't feel exhausted and I'll be able to get in some good mileage next week, not losing too much ground on Alison :)
