3 weeks of slacking

3 weeks of slacking off and I'm already feeling slow. Or it could just be that I've come down with a cold. Either way I can hardly wait until this weekend. I am working really hard so that my weekend is entirely free! Then next week I only have to run/coach and apply for jobs.

Last week, Slacker :(

Too old

Well, I guess I'm too old to do everything. I think there was a time in my life that I could do without sleep for extended periods of time, but that time has past. My body finally defeated my mind so it looks like I'm doomed to another week of slackerness. Next week will likely be the same, but then I'm done! Spring Break should be a good start back on track. It'll be 4 weeks of slacking, but slacking at 45-50 miles isn't too terrible. Then I should be able to get in three solid weeks of training and one recovery before the big race (Bloomsday). Hopefully, my goal of running sub-40 is still within reach. I think it will be...

Too much

2nd again...5th race in a row. At least I was over 10 seconds behind this time. This was the 5th race I've finished second in and to the 5th different person. You'd think they'd stop importing competition for me. Anyway it was 20 seconds faster than last year so that was good. I think I could have been at least 20 seconds faster if I had a better week of sleep, ran in racing flats instead of trainers, not had shin splints most of the race.
Today I'll be icing after my run.

James' Running week 5 of 10: 48.5 of about 70 miles
Sun: 13 miles, St. Patrick's Race, 2nd in 26:47

Thurs: 4.5 miles, switchbacks
Wed: 8.5 miles, 5 x 3min hard,3 min easy
Tues: 3.5 miles, Road OnBs
Mon: 12 miles, Arrowhead + Whitworth

Sleep is overrated!

Once again this week I find myself up at 2 in the morning and a 5 am alarm looming. If this keeps up, I'll surely find myself in 2nd place again this weekend.

Shorts and T-Shirt weather

Decent week mileage wise. The shorts and t-shirt weather has helped. I wanted to get a little over 70 because I am fairly sure that this coming week will be a little down mileage wise. The first week of track practices plus all the normal stuff is going to make my schedule even tighter. Tomorrow for example I should be busy from about 5 AM through Midnight. Fortunately about half of what I need to do is worth looking forward to, so as long as I don't need sleep I should be fine. The decrease in mileage should also help my race next Sunday go a little better, although the lack of sleep will probably have the opposite effect. I might be able to get some catch up on Thursday/Friday/Saturday nights though.
Just as long as I don't finish second. I've already decided that if I think I'll be in second at the finish, I may just stop and wait so I can finish 3rd.

James' Running week 4 of 10: 72 of about 70 miles

Sat: 12 miles, CT from deep creek at 6:50
Fri: 7.5 miles, Indian Trail/world's steepest
Thurs: 8 miles, CT from Arena 4 miles tempo
Wed: 12 miles, 4x1 miles (5:41, 5:31, 5:21, 5:07)
Tues: 4.5 miles, Switchbacks
Mon: 16 miles, Highlands, Upper-Upper, Ryan's Loop
