Misconception achieved
Wanted to start by introducing myself to the running-blogs.com community. My name is Jacob Phillips and currently I am the Head XC/TF Coach at Dallas Baptist University. I'm still pretty young, 23 years old, and still pretty focused on one thing...running. I just want to run as fast as I possibly can until I start slowing down.
I do want to apologize in advance for my grammar issues...I have lived in Texas my entire life and therefore have mastered "texan" language and not really the english language. But I do love Texas and do think that generally we are a friendly state, regardless of the misconception that is out there.
Let it be know that I also have a tendency to not stay on a certain topic for very long and to jumble thoughts into one completely disfunctional conversation.
But onto running...I've run seriously now for the last two years. Don't take that as in me being a beginner, or being new to running. I have run since junior high school and have had the same goals since day one. I just never understood running, hard work, or training until only recently, and even now, I'm still learning. My pr's aren't by any means great, they're not even that good, but as all runners do...here they are, with date achieved, and event name.
mile -- 4:23.84 -- January 20th, 2007 -- Texas Tech Indoor
3000m -- 8:49.78 -- March 25, 2007 -- Dr. Pepper Invite, Baylor University
5000m -- 14:59 -- November 20, 2007 -- DBU Turkey Trot
5 Mile -- 25:18 -- November 23, 2007 -- RunThruTheWoods, Woodlands Texas
10K -- 31:09 -- October 14, 2007 -- Chile Pepper Invite
Half -- 1:11:35 -- January 14, 2006 -- USA Half Marathon Championships
Onto this season: After some minor successes in November and January I had some injury issues so now after about three weeks off, I'm back to running strong. I'm back to 6 weeks of decent running with the goal being a summer series of mile races.
Now onto yesterday. Which was my second "track" workout of the new cycle. My first workout came on Friday of last week which was 4x1200m w/ 400m Recovery...I ran 3:26,3:28,3:30,3:30 and just could not get into a rhythm. But yesterday. Yesterday was the first workout I have ever been scared of. 3x600m in 1:32 + 5x200m in 31-32, w/ 800m Recovery for the 600's and 200m Recovery for the 200's. Splits are as follows: 1:31.23, 1:31.61, 1:30.90, 32, 31, 31, 31, 32.
All in all a successful workout. Now I've got a 1500m race tomorrow at the Bobby Lane Invite hosted by UT-Arlington. My goal time is 3:55-3:59. That would be a major pr. So we'll see.
