Ugh...I should have stuck with the plantar fasciitis. Once I felt like that was sufficiently dealt with I moved on to celiac disease, but apparently that wasn't sufficiently hypochondriatic to satisfy my taper madness, so now I've come down with a cold.
I'm interspersing vitamic C lozenges with Cold-EEZE lozenges and slurping down fluids without restraint. I went out for a belated birthday dinner with my aunt and uncle Tuesday night and ordered two ginger-lime mojitos, hoping that those would count towards the cold prevention effort, but to no avail...I still woke up yesterday feeling exhausted, incapable of movement, head congested, stuggling to breathe.
But at least that made it an easy call to stay in bed and call in sick. It's a little nerve-wracking to wrestle with germs this close to the race, but I'm circumspect enough to appreciate that it's hitting me now and not two days from now. After resting all day, I felt well enough last night to do the last six miles of Jack's run in the rain with him. You don't even notice that your nose is dripping when there's rain water pouring down your face and I actually felt quite healthy when I finished. I'm still a little dopey today, but after a decent run this morning I couldn't really justify taking another sick day. I'm just hoping that this will be the last taper induced health emergency before Sunday.
