RELAX!
It's been almost three months again since I last posted. Surprisingly, I don't feel like I have that much to say. My pregnancy is going well. The baby is moving and kicking up a storm. I'm about 31.5 weeks pregnant and raring to go. My constant nausea stopped at 19 weeks, so I enjoyed my best weeks from about 19-27 (then the third trimester started). So far, the third trimester is still better than that first one. It's a little difficult to find a good sleeping position with a big belly in the way, but I've been getting close to enough sleep. The sometimes difficult thing is the heartburn I get at night, but it's nothing a Tums or two can't take care of.
Running is a whole different story. I had to stop running a few weeks ago because I was having contractions every time I ran. In the last week though, I experimented to find a safe way to get around that. The first time I ran a mile on the track after walking for an hour. That felt good because it was so short, but even in that small amount of time, my heartrate was too high by the end of the mile. Yesterday, Brad did a tempo run at Fresh Pond, so I walked 3.5 miles, and then ran/walked the last 1.5 miles (a total of 2 loops or so of the pond). I alternated 2 minutes of running and 2 minutes of walking. That was perfect until I was finished and couldn't make it back to the car. I guess I overdid it a little. I really didn't do too much, I think I just walked a little too fast. What can I say? There was a race going on and I was motivated.
Today I have strict orders from Brad to rest and relax while he's off doing his long run (He'll be gone a while because he had to drive an hour just to meet people). That's one of the hard things about being pregnant when you are used to a somewhat active lifestyle. You think you're invincible. I'm not even sure relaxing is in my vocabulary, but I'm going to try because that's what's the best for me and the baby at this point. I think I'll go read now...

hi!!!! it's great to hear from you! i'm glad you're taking it as easy as you need to. my mom always says you have to let the baby incubate!! :) i'm sorry you can't run though. that must be rough. take care with the rest of your pregnancy and i am sure you will be quite super active once the baby is born!!

Hi Caitlin!
You know, I think athletes are really in tune with what our bodies are trying to tell us. As a pregnant woman, that's got to be about the most important thing to pay attention to, the signs and signals that your body is happy, or not. It sounds like you are doing a really good job of listening to your body.
By the way, wow, I cannot believe how far along you are! Does it seem to be going by fast for you?
Glad to hear from you and good luck in your third trimester!

.. ditto above... plus this blog has seen quite a few births in the near past... that in itself is cool and intuitively support-generating, no? Have fun! My wife's midwife had a running mom, she has narrated, who was as unstoppable as her baby reluctant to be born. Some days after passing the expected b-day, they almost considered letting her run around the ward as a last attempt to get the expulsive contractions going... :-) in the end, with widespread relief, Nature took her course and everything happended quite spontaneously :-)

caitlin, congrats on your pregnancy! i share (d) many of your thoughts on running while pregnant. my little girl is 4.5 months now and after taking one month completely off from running (post partum recovery) and easing back into running--i'm feeling better than ever (or than I have in a really really long time!) best of luck and enjoy these last few weeks (couple of months). it goes by very quickly. great news again! :) liz

Congratulations on the pregnancy. My wife went from running to powerwalking during hers (our kids are now 18 and 14), and that seemed to really help her.
