Ouch!

I woke up in the middle of the night with the most intense charley horse ever. I was screaming and grabbing my calf. I couldn't make it go away. It felt like something was trying to tear through my skin. Brad thinks I was dehydrated from my massage. Probably, since all I drank after it was lots of diet soda. All I know is that I'm a little nervous about going to bed tonight because I can't deal with having another one.

Today I ran the usual 70 minutes. I controlled myself from catching someone way ahead of me. Usually I can't control the temptation, but I wanted a nice, relaxing run. Maybe it if it was the end of the run, but it was too early in the run to start chasing someone. Maybe next time.

Poor Caitlin...but also poor Brad! Screaming in the middle of the night? :-) I hope tonight goes better!

Caitlin - I am sure you were dehydrated. Those charley horses are so annoying. I think you should try to force yourself to drink a liter of water after and before your runs, spread out over time of course. The formula "they say" is for every diet soda or dierretic that you drink you must replace it with an equivalent size water. Hope your nights become more peaceful.

Caitlin--To stop a charley horse that is in full progress, grab your toes and pull them back towards your body, stretching out your calf. This counteracts the muscle contraction and will certainly lessen the pain as well as stopping the charley horse. Hope it works for you! It really did for me.
