The Short Version

I need to play catch up because I have neglected to update my blog since shortly after the Chicago Marathon. I will whip out a short version now, and then spin the longer version some time this week.

A few things I would like to write about include the Men's Olympic Trials, Paula Radcliffe, Ryan Shay . . . I was in NYC to cheer on a few of my friends, and I am still processing everything that happened. The best way I can describe it is to say that it was surreal . . . Every runner that I know left NYC with a dark shadow looming over her heart.

Outside of running, things have been insane. Teaching 4 writing classes (90 students) just about buried me last week . . . but with 4 weeks to go in the semester, I can finally see the finish and I am RACING to get there; I am desperately counting down the days to our holiday time-out.

My running: I set two PRs - I ran 38:09 three weeks ago in the the 10K and then 37:54 this morning. Breaking 38 was sweet, and it was especially sweet given the fact that I have reduced my mileage to 40 miles/week and my days/ week running to 4-5. I lined up today hoping to break 39 so I was ecstatic to hit mile 5 and realize that if I tore through the final mile in 6:00, I would *finally* break 38:00.

Overall, I have no complaints . . . I am looking forward to writing and brewing something more thoughtful soon!

Congratulations on your sub-38!!! I, too, haven't had time to write the blog entries I've been intending to write... Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you get some time off for that.

Ooh, whoever suggested winning a turkey is brilliant. Maybe because I'm reading this just after Thanksgiving. Congrats! Quite inspirational!

Wow, some nice 10k times there, those are great. It sounds like your fitness has really taken a real bump up since your PR half...great work, congrats.

Great race! That isn't an easy course to run fast - perfectly flat, but lots of turns as you go up one block and down the next, if I recall correctly.
