Back to the drawing board
I tanked last weekend. I ran another PR, but it wasn't really a PR because I hit mile 5 faster in the 10K that I ran two weeks ago than I did in Sunday's 8K. I ran 31:07. The race itself was a lot of fun - it was in the Hamptons in NY on a relatively flat, but totally boring, course. I finished as the third female. The first female was a solid D1 runner a few years ago and she is currently sponsored by Nike. I don't want to sound mean, but it was a little frightening to see her up close - I have only seen pictures. She was tiny - I mean really, really skinny.
I hit a rut where I couldn't break through 6:15 pace even though I have been blowing it away in workouts. After several races in the past 2.5 months (in order of appearance: 8K, 1/2 marathon, 5K, 1/2 marathon, 10K, 8K), my legs were tired. I've never raced this much before and when I emailed H. after the race - slightly dejected and disappointed in the way I ran - he said (almost verbatim): "it's time to lick your wounds and move on. We are lucky you came out of June in one piece." Enough said.
My mileage took a nice dip south after Grandma's - the past few weeks have been between 37 - 42. I should move up north slightly and hit 50 this week, which finally feels like home. I don't know how long I will be staying there. If all goes according to plan, I should move into the 60s by the end of this month and peak around 75 in September. Fingers crossed :)
This week has been rather unremarkable so far. I got in a good workout on Wednesday: 5 x 1200 in 4:28 (all five were in 4:28). We actually cut the workout short because of the humidity. I think only two of us in the group hit our assigned pace (I was assigned 4:30). I should have a lot to write about on Saturday - we are doing a strength/endurance workout . . . I LOVE those workouts!
