Rude Awakening

This morning I was rudely awaken before my alarm by thunder. Yes, thunder, in the morning. I have very few memories of early morning thunder storms. I remember plenty in the afternoon and evening hours, but can't really remember many in the morning. There was another thunder storm on my way into work. After lunch rolled around, the storms had rolled out and it was actually very pretty. It was a nice temperature for being outside, sunny and breezy.

Since I raced yesterday, I wasn't doing the workout at the track tonight. We had toyed with the idea of doing more than just striders tonight, but after the last race I did we thought that doing more ruined the rest of my week. It really was a game time decision, we weren't making the final decision until after the warm-up. When I woke up, my legs definitely felt like I had raced, but that feeling lessened as the day went on. During the warm-up, I felt clunky and tight, so that made the decison simple.

While everyone else was doing their 400s, I jogged two easy laps to get moving again. After that, it was 8 laps of striding out on the backstretch. I felt smoother on the strides than I did on the easy part. J wanted me to take the 300 easier than I normally would since the race was only yesterday. We made the decision to not even turn on my watch since that would make me want to try for 7 minute pace. Since there was still a lot left in everyone else's workout when I got done my striders, I jogged another two laps. That made it an even 3 miles on the track, since everyone knows that I like to work with even numbers for my mileage.

Can you teach me how to run a sub 39 10K? Better yet, a sub 40:00? You are so fast :) I think you made a good decision to take it easier than usual the other day . . . I am feeling antsy from not running in a week, but I am sure my body will be grateful.
