What Holiday?
I guess that some people consider today a holiday. My opinion may be a bit skewed, after being single for the past several Valentine's Days. Even when I have a boyfriend for Valentine's Day, the fact that you're supposed to do something makes me not want to do something. Seriously, if you go out to dinner, everyone else has. Flowers are ridiculously overpriced. I would rather have something completely spontaneous, on a day other than February 14.
This morning's run went much better than I thought that it would. The development that is the early part is not as clear as other areas, so I added some onto the loop so that I could cut that part out on the way home. The next part was the most dangerous part of the run since it involves running along a major road for about a hundred meters. The sidewalks along this road aren't shoveled, so I had to run in the road. The rest of the roads were clear and I felt good. It turns out that I added on more than I cut off, so I ended up with five miles.
I left work early this afternoon since I knew that there were some areas that weren't completely clear. The thought of running on them in the dark wasn't appealing and my parents would rather me leave work an hour early than slip and fall on ice. Even though I left early, it took longer than usual to get home. By the time I got home, changed, and went to the bathroom it was 4:30. After thinking about this morning and running in the major road, I decided that it was not a good idea to run from my house. I drove over to the gym and decided to run from there. In retrospect, I should have driven pretty much accross the major road and parked on that side of the road and run from there.
Usually if I have a good morning run, I also have a good afternoon run. That was not the case today. It might have gone better if I had a route to run from the gym that is longer. The only loops I have from there are in the 20-30 minute range. I felt like I had been running for at least 45-50 minutes when I looked at my watch and it was just half an hour. Arggh, at least another half hour to go! It didn't help that I had to go to the bathroom and with the snow that was just not a possibility. First of all, there aren't really any wooded areas and second of all, with the white snow what I had to do would be completely obvious. The run ended up being a lot of loops. I may have been running much faster than I thought, since one section that I know is almost two miles took less than 13 minutes. I managed an hour, but was miserable and grumpy the entire time. I guess that my total for today was just over 13 miles.
I lifted since I was already at the gym. It seems that the cool kids don't go to the gym on Valentine's Day. It was sort of crowded, but nowhere near as crowded as it has been lately. I was able to do everything that I wanted to do and ought to be sore tomorrow. When I started to lift I wasn't in the mood to do it, but the more I did, the more I cheered up. I also did some balance exercises on the BOSU ball and noticed that my ability to balance on my right foot has significantly improved. Two weeks ago, I could only stay on for about two seconds, so anything is improving.
