Using that Thing Over My Shoulders

The meterologists didn't disappoint today. It wasn't the most that we've ever gotten in one storm, but there is enough to really mess things up. By mid-Atlantic standards, we got a ton of snow. I've lived in this area my entire life, but I would guess that the 15.5 inches we got is a lot by most people's standards. I can only imagine how much snow has fallen in the farther north areas, since New York City apparently had record snowfall. It was enough to really throw a wrench into my plans for today. By the time I got up this morning, the snow had pretty much stopped falling.

For some unknown reason, I decided to run this morning before the roads had really been cleared. If I had been thinking at all, I would have waited until the afternoon so that the roads were somewhat clear. Getting off my street was an adventure in itself since we live on a cul-de-sac, so we never get plowed. The snow practically came up to my knees, so my Yaktrax didn't really affect me. The development where I do most of my running was not what I expected. The side roads in were almost completely clear, but the main roads were sort of a mess. I think that it is because people were out driving on them before the plows really got to do their job. The Yaktrax were only slightly helpful, I kept getting ice balls stuck in them, so my traction wasn't that improved. It was hard to run normally because I had on so many layers on my legs. It wasn't too big of a deal since I was told to make sure whatever I did was short and easy today. Even though I've been feeling fine, we really wanted to be careful for today so that I can feel strong for the workout tomorrow night.

I did an extended version of my morning out and back. On the way back, I had to stop at the Wawa to get some cheese for my mom. I was going to add on some more, but running home with a half pound of cheese in my pocket wasn't very comfortable. When I got home, my mom asked if I had gotten her message when I was running. Message, what are you talking about? She hoped I brought my cell phone with me so I could call in case I fell down. No, I don't ever carry my cell phone with me. Anyhow, she wanted me to get the newspaper since ours was ruined. The shoes went back on and I ran back to Wawa to buy the paper.

Instead of making bagels today like I had planned, I spent most of the day cleaning and working on my scrapbook. I now have a scrapbook of all the newspaper clippings that have been sitting around for years. It didn't take that much time, I don't know why I kept putting it off. Now, I just have to stay on top of it any time I do a race. Bagels would have been good, but this was more productive.

Later this afternoon I was very tempted to go down to the treadmill in the basement and do another three miles. There really was no reason for doing it other than wanting to have more miles this week. I finally used my head and decided against it. This week there was no need for doing a third double. Next week, yes, but not this week. This week was a hard week even if it didn't seem like it was. Messing with my body clock was just as hard as running workouts, so the only thing that would have been accomplished would be wearing myself out. Even without the double today and only doing a short run, my weekly total was well into the 60s. Next week is a big week, so a double today was uncalled for.
