Cold and Lighter Workout

The milder winter has definitely turned me into even more of a baby when it comes to the cold. In a normal winter, today would have been considered not too bad, but given this winter, it was downright cold. The high was below average for this time of year, but for the past few winters we have really suffered with extreme cold, so it wouldn't be that bad. It was probably right around 32 degrees tonight when we got to the track and the wind had died down, which it continued to do as the workout went on.

All day I felt sort of iffy about the workout tonight. There seemed to be some residual tiredness in my legs from Saturday's tempo run. In reality, that run wasn't really a long run, it was a workout. The legs just felt a little on the heavy and flat side. It's been two weeks since my last massage and I can tell it is time to get worked on again. After two weeks I can notice it, but I try to stretch it to three weeks between appointments for a few reasons-to save money and because the massages take a lot out of me. Later this week I'll call to set up an appointment sometime next week.

The workout on tap tonight was 800s with a 400 jog again. Everyone but me had 6 on the schedule, but I had 7. This was sort of a relief since I had thought that I would be doing 8 tonight. We started as a big group, pretty much the same group as last week, and did the first one in 3:02. Now remember, we're supposed to be doing these sort of Yasso-style, so not blazing fast. M, who hasn't been to a workout in about a month was there, and he likes to do his recoveries faster as well, so I ended up running with him. We slowed down the 800s but did the jog lap very fast. The rest of our 800s were: 3:06, 3:06, 3:03, 3:08, 3:04, and 3:06. Our recoveries ranged from 1:48 to 1:52 and we took turns leading 800s. Boy, oh, boy were 3:06s tough with the recovery so fast. Of course, this is the way the workout was supposed to be done and I have been spoiled by doing the recoveries so slow the past few weeks. We did notice that it stayed light much further into the workout. We still had light for the first three, spring is right around the corner!

Tomorrow morning I have to face the dentist again and see what he says about needing to have serious dental work done. Keep your fingers crossed for me....
