Overanalyzing

The passenger side of my car has been suspiciously damp this week. My original thought was that it was because of all the rain we had. I still firmly believe that is most of the cause, but the back seat had all six inches that fell last week on the floor, or a water bottle burst open. Either way, my project ended up being more tedious than originally planned.

The front floor mats had been very wet looking, so I decided to haul out the shop vac and wet/dry vac the front floor mat. Well, when I started to do that, I noticed a lot of water on the floor of the back seat. My project then spiralled out of control to using the vac on the entire inside of the car (it needed it, I drive around with the sunroof open, so small stuff gets in). Then, I decided if the inside of the car was clean, the outside might as well be clean, too. This entailed me bringing out the elbow-high bright orange rubber gloves and getting soaked from the hose. Anyhow, now my car is the cleanest it has been in several months.

Later on this afternoon, I decided to go for another run. My legs felt fine. They definitely did not feel like I ran a race this morning. I think that part of this is because I ran a very poorly executed race. I did five miles and felt like I could have done another five without a problem. I think that I was running around 7:20 pace, so it wasn't like I was really loafing, it just felt natural. I keep thinking to myself that I probably would have run faster (and won) if I had not gone out so hard, but I was following my directions. I also do realize that 5Ks are very hard for me as I am not genetically blessed with much leg speed. I keep going over the race in my head to think about what I could have done better. My main problem was not keeping the pace controlled enough early on. It was also suggested, that although I really don't feel it, my body is not completely recovered from racing and travelling on Monday. This week was not the easiest week, between that, not sleeping well (again) and a great track workout-so my body very well could have been on the tired side. All this is fine, but I don't want to make excuses, my race tactics were poor.

After today, I can't go over and over it. The race is in the past tomorrow and then I have to move on to the future. I'm pretty sure about the rest of the races I'm going to do this year and you learn from every race you run. I know that I run my best when there is a deep field to bring out my competitive side. Only a few more hours of the could have, should have, would haves and then it is time to work on what should have been done.

Congratulations on the sub 19:00 time! Very impressive so soon after Tufts. Your time definitely shouldn't be rounded up. 18:59.1 would be 19:00, but 18:59.0 is 18:59.0! As for your race tactics, this'll just help you next time. You haven't raced a 5K in a while, so I think it takes a race or two to know what pace you can handle in the beginning. I had the same thing in my one 5K - I went out at an optimistic pace and died a bit. Now that you have a better sense of what pace you can run for 5K, it'll be easier to know how to start out.

Very impressive that you felt so lively later in the day. I think my legs are still tired from _last_ weekend.
