When Will the Weather Break?
When? This morning was not ungodly hot as it has been on other days, but the air was like soup. When I got up to get ready for my run, the weather report said that the humidity was at 92%. It only got worse as the run went on. My favorite part was the 25 minutes that we ran in a steady rain. The rain felt oh, so good.
Summer running is not my favorite thing to do. I always feel so slow and out of shape. Having thought about it some I know there are a number of factors that influence it. The first is that I sweat so much that it is nearly impossible to stay in a hydrated state. Even drinking water constantly is not enough for me. I should get an IV so that I can hook myself up to quickly rehydrate! Another factor is that the high school kids run with us in the summer. Most of them have no concept of pacing and what they should or should not do. Many of them run as hard as possible until the wheels simply fall off. Some of them are also just plain dangerous to run with on the road. The boys who run with us are very good and hard workers. The girls, well let's just say that they are very talented and tend to get by on that talent.
This morning we did the museum loop. The museum loop is actually on the grounds of a historic estate that I've written about many times. This is a very pretty run with some challenging hills. I can't say that I felt very good during the run. Some of it is my pride, there are just certain people who I have a hard time letting run in front of me. I know that I need to let go of this. The individual I am speaking of at the moment has been a great runner, but isn't as serious now. She and I were running together and talking about how well she is running now. She never races and is thinking about doing some in the fall. One of the differences she mentioned is that she lost some weight (not something that I really want to get on the topic of...enough problems mentally and I don't want to turn this into a eating issue). She also started to lift again and says that she is not falling apart like she used to. The run ended up being exactly 68 minutes, a pretty good clip for this route. At one point I wasn't sure which way to go so the guy who I was running with and I ran around this little circle until the rest of the group caught up to us.
I stupidly forgot to bring clean socks and shoes to wear to the gym. If I go home in between there is no way that I'll go back out, so I had to suffer with wet feet. I rode the bike for an hour and tried to sneak some glimpses at the Tour while I was on the bike, but since I didn't have any headphones to listen. The closed captioning is just too small to read from that far away, so my watching wasn't all that accurate.
I stretched some with a resistaband (they have them but they sometimes disappear) and plan to do some more this afternoon. I really think that improving my flexiblity is going to help me significantly in the end. I also lifted, I ought to be sore soon since I have not touched a weight in about 3 weeks.
Whew, that was quite a bit. I've got to accomplish a bunch of things today since I have a bachelorette party to attend tonight. Thankfully it won't be too bad, we're getting dressed up and going to a lounge for a drink and some desserts (for those who eat dessert) and won't be out too late. My favorite part is the getting dressed up part.
