The Big Return

Today was the big return to running, the day that I was waiting all of last week for. It was hot, but not that bad of running weather. It was the kind of heat that we never get out east, dry heat. The humidity was way down, even if the temperature was way up there. I think that we had a high of 93 or 95, but it didn't feel the way it usually does when it gets that hot. The humidity is back tomorrow from what I've seen. The nicest part of the low humidity was that I didn't look like I had gone swimming by the end of the workout tonight.

I went to the track, but we weren't doing a workout. The next few weeks are a little bit more laid back, we might do some pick-ups, but no structured workouts. Tonight we "learned" a new neighborhood loop that will be the loop where we do out pick-ups and tempo runs. There were lots of turns and loops, so none of us would feel too confident to do it on our own yet. J says that he is going to go out and put arrows and mile markers so we can know where we are. The full loop is 4.2 miles with some rolling hills. The killer is the slight incline for the last mile.

A whole lot of the high schoolers were with us tonight. They make the run all the more difficult. I don't mind some of them, but some are very inconsiderate to the drivers and say things out loud that they just should not say. Others have two paces-12 minute mile pace or all out. The constant fluctuations in the pace made this run much more taxing than it should have been. Once we got done, I did what the kids were doing, not what the adults did, for a warm-down. When I got done my three laps on the track, I noticed that I was at 59 minutes, so I kept jogging to hit an even hour. It really didn't matter and there was no reason for it other than my obsessive-compulsive tendencies to have a nice even number to write down.

My right ankle was the only thing that bothered me a little. I don't understand why it hurts some more after the time off. I would like to thank everyone for being so supportive during my whiney week off from running. In the end I know it is good for me to do, but it is so much easier to do it when the weather is cold.

Can I borrow some of your obsessive compulsive tendencies? I have no problem stopping at 57:38. For the record, I also find teenages difficult and I am waaaaaay more whiney than you when I do not run (just ask B.!). I hope your ankle behaves.
