Sore Tush

Man, my tush was sore today after riding the bike. The gym doesn't open until noon on Sundays since they share a parking lot with the church next door. The church reciprocates by allowing us to use their parking spots during all other times. There are actually two separate lots, but they are thisclose together and not really physically separated. Basically it meant that I had to wait until at least 12:00 to do something today.

There was a "level 1" yoga class this afternoon at 2:00 and I decided that I would go to that. Having not really done any kind of activity since Monday, I really wanted to do something, so I went early and rode the stationary bike for a while. I have not been on one of those for about two weeks and my butt let me know. I rode for about 50 minutes before I had to rush to yoga. The room that yoga is in is so cold and I didn't remember to bring anything to wear, so I was shivering in my slightly sweaty state in the room witht the thermostat set at 57. After the class I went back to the fitness center and rode the bike for another 18 minutes.

Taking this week off has helped some of my minor irritating body parts recover some. My right side from the achilles down is always a mess. If I turn an ankle, you can bet it is the right one. I think that I have done so much to it that it is always going to be a problem. Anyhow, I had been hobbling out of bed because the ankle was so inflamed for the past few weeks. I must have turned it and not even realized it. My other sore body parts are not nearly as sore as they once were. My ankle doesn't hurt in the morning now, but it feels like the tendons are so stretched out that it is kind of sore at other times. I have been paying attention to it and icing it. It doesn't hurt until later in the day, kind of like it is getting tired.

I did learn that I can go for six days without doing any real physical activity and that it will not kill me. This coming week I won't be able to run as much as I'll want to. I think that J wants me to run only Monday, Thursday, and Saturday. I may sneak a stealth run in there somewhere, but he would kill me if I went six days as usual. Even if I don't get to run as many days, I will do more strenuous cross-training next week.

That's really cool your body is healing. That seems so funny to say/write, but that should be encouraging that the week off will really make you a stronger runner (who can run more pain-free :) It sounds like you did need the rest!

Congratulations on your week of no running. It sounds like that is a pretty special feat in and of itself.

Glad to hear your body is feeling better! It is good to remember that just because we love to run, it doesn't kill us (and it might even make us better runners) to take a break.

Enjoy your return to running this week!
