A Decision Made
Not too much has happened since I wrote this morning. That's the problem with writing about the previous day in the morning. I feel like I just wrote, but I don't want to put it off until tomorrow. When that happens it gets too easy to just keep putting it off and then the next thing you know it's been over a week and the blog still remains untouched.
Tonight's "workout" went much better than expected. The humidity was not up as much as originally forecasted. The temperature was well into the 90s, but the humidity was at a bearable percentage. I had made the decision that we were not going to do the workout on the track since it was based on time, but once we got moving we realized it would not be all that bad on the track. I felt very choppy during the warm-up, so I had very low expectations for the workout. This may have been due to the fact that we had to stop during the warm-up. We came around a bend in the road and found a huge tree down. Not only was there a tree down, but it was covered in poison ivy. I wouldn't have known that and climbed right over it, but two of the people running with us are horticulture people. It took some creativity, but we found a way around the tree. I made the decision that we were going to do the same workout as last week. We had the option of adding one more segment, but if the weather was oppressive we were to stay at 16 minutes. I felt much better than last week and was able to maintain the pace this time. We shortened the warm-down by cutting through the grass to avoid the poison ivy covered tree. I added a few laps on the track when we got back to hit the time I was shooting for.
Today I committed to a race for the fall. This ought to light a fire under my ass to get myself back in gear. It won't take long to get back in shape. If anything, this will give me something to focus on. I think that some other bloggers may be running this race, but I'm not sure. It was one that I had been considering and then this opportunity came up, so that made the decision final.

I cannot handle the suspense about this mysterious fall race!!! Is it a 5K? 10K? Marathon??? I don't think I am doing this unsaid race so I am completely curious :) By the way, I love the notion of "lighting a fire under my ass." I thought that once I committed to a fall race, the fire would burn. It was . . . until this week. Now the flames are slowly fading - help!!!
