Need to Pay More Attention to Flexibility
It still baffles me how I was able to get up and be running by 5 AM so many mornings this winter. Waking up at 7:30 to run this morning nearly killed me. I just don't get how I need so much sleep when I'm not really training per se.
This morning was meant to be very easy for more than one reason. First of all, I had a good solid run yesterday. Secondly, I was scheduled for a massage later in the morning. Thirdly, tomorrow night is a workout and as far as I am concerned the workouts are more important than the easy runs.
Getting dressed was not easy. I didn't really want to go out in just a sports bra (short-wear testing the HR bra today), but I thought that I might be warm with a shirt on. My hunch was right, about two-thirds of the way through the run I was roasting. Even though I didn't think that it was short sports bra weather, I had to suck in my stomach and finish the run with no shirt on.
The run was really not all that interesting. I was really groggy at the start...my first two miles were in 15 minutes, the same two miles on the way back were in 13:10. I did try to stay really relaxed, but at times I noticed that I was pushing harder than I meant to. I got back and wasn't sure if I had time to do my striders, but I know that they do help me, so I did them. I'm sure that the landscapers working accross the street were confused to see some chick running back and forth on the street.
My massage was painful to put it mildly. She thinks that my back may be out of alignment based on what I was telling her about the discomfort and awkwardness of running faster paces. Of course, I come from a family that absolutely does not believe in chiropractic care. Not like I have any insurance to cover it if that is the problem. Oh wait, I don't even have a paycheck to be able to pay for an appointment! My calves were in serious knots, very unusal for me. Both my right and left piriformis were tight. My right foot was much tighter than my left, I've got to keep stretching that so that my plantar doesn't flare up.
This afternoon I went on a long walk, about 3.5 miles to get the blood flowing in my legs again. When I got back I did a lot of stretching. One thing that I noticed when I stretched this afternoon was that my back is very tight.
Mom is going to her aerobics class tonight and wants me to come, but I don't want to work out more than I should tonight.
