I Guess I Was Pooped
After our long excursion yesterday, both mom and I were absolutely pooped. I had called my friend S to see if she was up to doing something last night, but fortunately, she didn't call back last night. We were watching a movie on TV last night and by 10:15 I was snoozing on the couch. I did wake up a few times in the middle of the night to pee, and once at 6:15 when I told myself to go back to sleep. When I woke up for real it was just about 9:00! Let me tell ya, I was dragging even then. I laid around for a little bit longer on the couch, so by the time I was even thinking about running it was nearly 9:45.
Since it is still just hot, humid, and nasty here on the East Coast, I decided it was not in my best interest to run on the roads in the sun. I went over to the straight, relatively flat trail that is about three miles from the house. The trail does connect to others, but this main trail is pretty tame. They are a part of the state parks system and are used by runners, walkers, and lots of mountain bikers. The main advantage to going here instead of one of the parks is that this trail is almost completely in the shade. Right when I was starting a group of three guys from the same family (grandpa, son, grandson) got on the trail on their bikes. I passed grandpa running and he said, that isn't a good sign for me! I did encounter a whole lot of people trying to stay out of the sun today. For the past few weeks, I have only run out for 18 minutes. Today I decided to run out until the trail ended. It turns out that the trail doesn't go too much further-granted I was running faster, but I reached the end in 19:45. Technically the trail does not end there, but it crosses some road and goes out into the sun. I turned around and ran back to where my car was, that took about 19 minutes. On my way back a group of more serious mountain bikers were behind me. They told me that I needed to slow down because they couldn't catch up-they didn't pass me until they were going down a hill. I wanted to run for 50 minutes, so I needed to add on when I got back to my car. I turned around, again, and went out for another 6 minutes. I will admit that this was a boring route, but it was cool and out of the sun.
This pattern of awful weather is not supposed to break until Wendesday night. The trail and I may become very good friends over the summer. I am starting to notice that the weather is not bothering me as much now as it was earlier in the week. It takes me a good week to get used to heat.
My mom and I went to the gym today. She is planning to take a water aerobics class that starts tomorrow and wanted to get acquainted with the layout before tomorrow. I showed her some pool exercises. I ran in the pool for about 20 minutes and she walked for that time. After that we kicked some laps with kickboards.
OK, I'm pooped again. Hope that everyone had good weekends.

I just finished catching up on your blog . . . WOW. You have had a crazy few days. I am sooooo happy to hear that you are resigning from your job (it never seemed like a perfect fit). On another note, it is totally kick ass that you were flying faster than the bikers on your running path! That is my dream :)
