When Nature Calls
Today I was not sure if I should go out and run. Now that it is done with, I am still not so sure of my decision. The ankle was feeling sore most of the day. Actually, it is kind of weird, it does not really hurt while I am running. I can feel it most when I am driving, it must be something with the angle of my foot against the acclerator and the brake. It bothered me a little bit in the last half mile of my run that involves quite a bit of stopping for traffic, but other than that, I could hardly feel it.
It was another beautiful day in the neighborhood. More like early April than early February. It was about 55 degrees when I headed out the door this afternoon. Suprisingly, I was actually warm! I wore shorts (!), a short sleeve, a light fleece, and gloves. I had my sleeves slightly pushed up for most of the run because I was on the warm side. This beautiful weather is supposed to be heading out of here tomorrow and the rest of the week looks pretty nasty.
I opted to do my back-up long run this afternoon. I was feeling really pretty good until around the 5 mile point when I knew I had to use the bathroom. Even with the warm weather, the snow drifts have not melted and the famous port-o-pot was difficult to access. By the time I reached the six mile point, where I have to stop to cross an 8-lane road, I knew that I was going to have to become one with nature. There are some bushes that hide me from the road that I have scoped out before in an emergency, so I used that as my private bathroom. From that point on, my stomach felt great, but about a mile and a half later my legs started to feel pretty tired from yesterday's workouts. I kept on telling myself only ten more minutes and that I could push through it. At this point, it was pretty clear that the pace had been fast, probably a result of the unusually warm weather. It ended up being 9 miles in 58:30. I meant to do some striders, but I just wanted to get out of my dirty shorts!
I changed and headed over to the gym. While there, I rode the stationary bike for half an hour and read a magazine. I hate when I pick up a magazine that I think I have not read and it turns out that I have read it before. I never realize this until I have already started and do not want to get off the machine. After that I wanted to lift, but the weight area got really busy while I was on the bike. I did a half-assed weight session since I was in a hurry to get to Trader Joe's to pick up some necessities, like dinner food. Tomorrow I'll try to do some more of the weight stuff since I'll have some more time.
Now off to ice!!!

I had to laugh at your nature calling description. Don't you just hate that when it happens? I use my sock. Yeah, I think it's better than nothing at all. So you know it's been bad if I come back from running missing a sock. We all have those moments once in a while.
Last year while visiting a friend in a city, I was running, and I really had to go. I couldn't find a gas station or store or anything. Finally I rounded this corner and there was a gas station. It was beautiful to see! I go running in, in desperation, and this little Indian man says, "No room for bath here." What? "No room for public bath here." But it's an emergency, sir, can't you see the dire look on my face? "Well okay. It not up to code. Go that way." It was the worst bathroom ever, but I could have cared less. Since then, I've felt glad that my bathroom emergencies have been running out here in the boonies!

That is such a funny description of your nature calling incident. I have the luck that whenever I take TP just in case of emergency, I don't need it, and when I don't take it, I need it.
Thanks for the advice on England. We are going for 10 days (three weeks from this Friday!). So we have time to go to the country in either England or France, I am not sure which we will do. But right now I am leaning towards the Cotswolds.
