The Big Thaw
This afternoon's high of 40 caused quite a bit of melting action today. Tomorrow will probably be quite the dangerous mess since the projected overnight low is 14 with a high of 20 for tomorrow. There should be lots of icing overnight. Dad was quite concerned about black ice when he was driving me into work this morning. The roads looked like they might be wet, but since the temperature was only 34 it could have been black ice.
Today was another day of suffering as once again I got next to no sleep. I fell asleep nice and early as planned, but the phone rang once at 10:58 and woke me up for the night. If I don't get sleep tonight, the rest of the week will not be pretty. Dad was a little bit early picking me up from work, so I got to rest for an extra ten minutes this afternoon before heading out on my run.
Because of all the melting, about 95% of the roads were completely clear this afternoon. It felt so strange to be able to stride naturally. I think I figured out what has made my hip flexors so tight for the past few days. The sliding backwards on slush has tightened them up. Extra work on the foam roller should help with that. The toe was not too much of a problem today either. It does not seem to bother me as much when I am running faster, which is probably why it does not really bother me on speed nights.
After running I headed to the gym for a bit of crosstraining. L was supposed to give me Paula Radcliffe's book to borrow today, so I had to make it over there this afternoon. I did the elliptical for 20 minutes, but my legs were way too tired to stay on it any longer. I did the bike for 35 minutes and got started on Paula's book. After that I did some push-ups and dips and some really light weight work.
I have to thank my dad about a thousand times because he has volunteered to take me to work for the rest of the week. He is a car man and does not want me to park somewhere that puts my car at risk for being hit or having an icicle fall on to it. He is so not a morning person and he has to get up early enough to get me into school by 7:00...he never gets up before 7:30 unless he absolutely has to for something. He is just way to good to be true!!
