Shorts in January!
Yesterday was one of the most bizarre days of January that I have ever experienced. I do not ever remember it being so warm in this area in January. It was nearly 70 degrees yesterday. Not one time in my life have I ever run outside in January wearing shorts. Of course, it poured rain today and the temperature has dropped dramatically, but yesterday was unbelievably warm.
Last night's workout is being blamed on the weather. Really, the weather made me do it wrong. The workout was the same as last Thursday, which was to do 20 minutes on the track at "realistic marathon pace". My workout buddy was here this week, so I had somebody to run with. We were supposed to be aiming for just under 7:00 pace, but that was not to be. We went through the first mile in 6:25. Making a conscious effort to slow down during the second mile resulted in a 6:40. Trying to maintain on the third mile, we ran a 6:30. Hey, nice weather, might as well take advantage of it while we can!
C was leading the warm-down. It was ridiculously fast. Faster than we did the workout. Finally we slowed down. After the warm-down, we were all hanging out talking about how hard it was to believe that we could stand around after a workout in January, wearing shorts, and not be freezing.
Our usual post workout watering hole was forced out of it's location and we have not found a definite replacement. We went to a bar and hung out for a while. Then we went to another bar where I ran into the guy who I went out with a few times, but have not called due to being busy. That ended up in staying out way too late for a work night. It was a good night, but no dinner :( Stupid me.
No running today. Tomorrow is a longer run. I'm shooting for about 80 minutes, but I'm not sure if my body is going to tolerate it right now. My left shin has a huge knot in it from not stretching last night. I've been trying to work it out and ice it out. It feels much better now than it did earlier in the day.
