Practically a Heat Wave
Given the recent weather, today was almost warm enough to be considered hot. Of course, it is not going to last more than just today. Tomorrow is supposed to have highs barely out of the twenties again. It was at least 30 degrees when I left the house to go to the track tonight. After several days of low twenties, it felt quite a bit warmer. Now I do understand that not everyone is as adversely affected by cold as myself, but the past few days should be cold by anyone's standards.
No dice on the day off from school today. Not even a late start. Most of the roads really were not all that bad. The Department of Transportation actually did a decent job of clearing the roads for once. We're supposed to get slammed with snow this weekend. They are calling for about 6 inches of snow by 4 in the afternoon on Saturday. I don't mind being snowed in for the Eagles game on Sunday, but I really want the day off from school on Monday.
Tonight's workout was supposed to be 24 minutes at marathon pace on the track. The track was absolutely covered with snow, so the planned workout was a no-go. Instead we did our usual warm-up and then did our Monday night loop backwards. It is quite a bit more difficult backwards than forwards. We did about 2.75 miles give or take at a steady state/marathon pace. I did that section in about 18 minutes. Some areas were a little bit icy, or at least icy looking. One of my biggest fears is falling on ice. The last time I fell on the ice I banged my head pretty hard, so now I am absolutely petrified of falling down and getting a concussion. We warmed down for another 19 minutes, giving us a total of somewhere between 8 and 9 miles for the night. My Zoom Milers are starting to grow on me as I wear them more. Tonight there wasn't any of the numbness in the right big toe, but that could have been because my feet were so cold that I just didn't feel anything in general.
Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to the gym to do some light cross-training and to lift. I haven't gotten to lift any day this week. Saturday is usually a lifting day, but I have a banquet to go to for lunch that is about an hour away, so there won't be much time after my long run to lift.
