Five Brave Souls

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, only five of us were brave enough to suffer in the cold temperatures tonight. The high today was only 25 degrees, but when I left for the track it was about 20 degrees and with the wind chill it was around 5 degrees. As the weatherman stated, since the first half of January was so warm, this cold feels even colder to us.

Even with many layers on tonight, my hands and feet were still freezing. After the warm-up, J gave me another pair of mittens to put on since I said that I could not feel my fingers. There really was not anything that could be done about the numb toes. We did our usual January-Monday night workout of the four mile loop with pick-ups. Since there were only five of us, we pretty much stuck together, taking turns on who lead the pick-up. Early on J said to us, "take what you can get, it's better than not doing anything tonight". I did not even bother turning my watch on, there was no point in timing a rather easy effort workout, I was just happy to get out and do something.

This morning I was going to try my first double, but I slept later than plannend and had too much on my agenda for the day. I went to buy my two new pairs of training shoes, but only came away with one. The Wave Rider 8 is expected to come in any day, so my name was added to the special order list. The Rider is so popular that it has it's own list! I did get a pair of adidas Supernova Cushion. I've never worn them before, but they should suffice for my clunker shoes (the shoes that get worn on easy runs). Then I had a few errands to run before going to the movies with my mom. We saw Meet the Fokkers and really enjoyed it. Then we made a quickie trip to Trader Joe's to pick up some necessities.

Now I need to make something hot to drink to try to warm up from the inside out!
