Baby It's Cold Outside!

Well, today I feel guilty about complaining that it was cold out yesterday. Last night pales in comparison to what today was like. Now I do realize that I have run in colder temperatures, but I do not know how I ever did. The unusually warm weather in the first half of January and the end of December makes this feel about a million times colder. It was 15 degrees outside this afternoon with a biting wind that made the wind chill well below zero. A sane person would have run inside on a treadmill or taken the day off, but no, not me. I went outside and did my longer mid-week run like a complete and total idiot.

There, it is out in the open now. Several motorists gave me looks of, "What on earth are you doing running outside". I did see one guy on a bike, now he is crazy. I also saw one other runner, whom I do know, and said to him that we must be nuts. The watch stayed at home this afternoon since it is impossible for me to run a decent pace (or at least what I consider to be a decent pace) when it is this cold. I had to stop once because I felt like there was a rock stuck in the bottom of my shoe. There wasn't, but the shoe was squeaking-lucky for me, the new shoes are in! A second stop was required about two and a half miles from home because I could not feel my face anymore. I was trying to run with my hands covering my face so that I could warm it up, but I had to slow down so much as to not lose my balance that I decided just to stop and warm up. I did manage eight miles, but I don't think that I could have gone any further since the cold was affecting me so much.

I went to the gym with the intentions of doing the elliptical, riding the bike and lifting. All that got accomplished was riding the bike for an hour. I talked with L the entire hour that I was on the bike that made it much more enjoyable. By the time I was done on the bike it was after 7:00 and I was hungry. The weight area was still crowded, so I can do it tomorrow when I have some more time. I'll do core exercises when we watch the Cold Case that we taped on Sunday night.
