Slip-Slidin' Away
It was not too bad out this morning, but as the day went on it got greyer and wetter outside. By the time I left work it was a light yet steady rain. When I left for the track the rain was getting heavier. It was also starting to get dark, which was probably intensified by the lack of sunlight all day.
C showed up to run, but when he saw that nobody else was there he left. This didn't bother me too much becuase he can be difficult to run with at times. I decided to wait five more minutes to see if anyone else came. I debated on what to do if nobody else was crazy enough to show up-I could go to the gym. I am anti-treadmill, I thought that I could do the elliptical. The main problem was that I had no shorts to put on. Call me a wimp, it was about 50 degrees and warm, but I wore light weight pants and I'm glad I did! I've determined that in order to be a guy in our group, your first name must start with J. Seriously, almost 1/2 of the men in our group have first names that start with J. One of the J's showed up, so he and I decided to do an easy run since we were out in the rain.
It was cold and wet. I started out a little bit on the warm side, but about ten minutes into the run I was soaked from running in the rain, through puddles, and getting splashed by cars. My legs would not have gotten warm if I had on shorts and I would be tighter than tight later on tonight if I wore shorts. Footing was a bit of an issue as was traffic since we decided to stay on busier streets. I was very happy that he showed up because I will not run alone in the dark, it just is not a good idea. It was an enjoyable run, short, but I'm glad that we got it in. We ran for about 42 and a half minutes. I stepped in some pretty deep puddles and was absolutely soaking wet by the time we finished.
I'm pretty sure that I'm going to race this Sunday. At this point in the year, I may as well race as much as possible before hanging up the shoes for my annual break from running. There is no reason to do lots of long training runs now, this is race season.
Hope everyone has happy Fridays!

We had the same weather yesterday. Yuck. If you decide not to race this weekend, you should definitely come to New York to watch the marathon!! This is the best year to see it, and two hours is nothing... No pressure though :-) Otherwise, good luck in your race!

The rain was definitely a "yuck". Like you, I had a hard time motivating myself to go run in it. I've decided to take advantage of my mini-taper and race. Maybe next year some of us in our group will organize a day trip up to see it, I think that it takes more than one morning to plan the logistics of seeing the marathon!
