Nothin Much

The title pretty much sums up today. I did an easy 4 miles this morning. It may have been a touch faster than it should have been. I planned to run it in 30 minutes, but got back in about 28:50. The first half was easy and slightly faster the second half. I think that most of my runs are progression style as jenandmats introduced. That sort of running just makes more sense, as my body warms up, I can pick up the pace.

Tonight I have an ice bath on tap and just chilling out before racing tomorrow. I also found it interesting that in the article on Kim Pawelek she mentioned candy corn as one of her favorite foods. What is it with women runners loving the stuff?!

y'know ... I've tended to run that way througout the years, too, without giving it a specific name. But I generally don't like doing miles for the sake of miles; I'm trying to make sure I have a purpose for almost all of my runs (recovery is recovery and no faster, a workout is a workout and I try not to make excuses and really push myself, that kind of thing.) And after reading Greg's article I know that the kind of run I'd do left to my own devices actually has a purpose! Now that it's a workout of sorts, though, I do try to give it a little more structure and make sure I do it right rather than leaving it up to my natural tendencies.

Also, after reading his article I know that the fastest pace isn't as fast as I'd probably normally go; it's a little slower, which is nice. With all this mileage I worry about overdoing it and with the progression run I know I'm doing something worthwhile without being completely tuckered out by Tuesday night. If I hadn't read the article I'd wonder if I had actually done anything worthwhile if it didn't hurt, ya know?

you beat me to the post about kim pawelek mentioning the bit about candy corn. oddly, i felt a sweet validation after reading that an elite runner also indulges in it (probably not as frequently as i do, but that's okay!!!).

i also agree that progression runs are the way to go. almost every article i have ever read about Kenyan training talks about their progression style of running. even tegla loroupe starts off at an 8:30 - 9:00 pace before progressing to her usual 6:00- sub 6:00 pace.
