Trendy Casual

I have to say, I am really excited to be going to Dallas and the US Open. Obviously because I can't wait to race against some of the best amateurs in the country! But also because I think this is going to be a great weekend.

Life Time Fitness is quite impressive and is treating us amateurs like royalty. The hotel we are in is simply amazing. It has a 25 meter pool in it. INSIDE the hotel! Let's just say, I have never stayed in a place this nice and it's likely I never will again. O and I usually go for those $70/night hotels where cleaning is optional. :)

Anyway, on the Friday night before the race there is a dinner at the hotel of which I am REALLY excited for. Mostly because this might prove to be my one chance to tell Greg Bennett of my undying admiration for him. (just kidding of course, but if I am able to get a picture without appearing too stalker-like I may just go for it! :) Anyway, today, an invitation for this dinner arrived in my inbox detailing when and where AND...expected attire. Uh-oh. I knew there had to be a catch.

We were directed to wear "trendy casual".

Please will someone tell me what that means?!

Instantly I quizzed my co-workers who are all much more fashionable than I am. They did look a tad bit stumped however they also instantly started blurting out things I was NOT allowed to wear as based on my preferences.

"That means no flip flops Beth". "And no shorts!" "Don't even bring jeans with you." Dear Lord - what's left?!

I assume if I'm not allowed to wear shorts that includes yoga pants too? And t-shirts are probably out also.

I emailed my mom (who will be accompanying me) for help.

Bad choice.

I should have known she would order VERY nice clothing because she always dresses nice and looks nice and I'm not even sure she owns jeans. (don't ask because I really don't know what happened to me - my sister must have gotten all the stylish genes)

And so I have myself a dilemma. What to wear? Since you all know how much I like to pack you can only guess how this adds to it!

But the biggest problem of all might be not WHAT to wear to dinner but HOW to keep these nice dinner clothes from smelling like my cycling shoes after cuddling with them in my suitcase for hours on end.

Now even I know that the only thing more offensive than improper attire is STINKY improper attire!

hehe i heard about this "trendy casual" silliness.
if it were me, i'd wear cute jeans (not the ones i've had since college but the ones i bought last month), strappy heels, cute top (fitted, prolly 3/4 or 1/2 sleeves with a graphic print, hip length), sparkly or dangly earrings, NO HRM WATCH (that part is very important), a silver bracelet, and either a cute purse (no totes or dirty huge things) or maybe a clutch. and my new jemma kidd for target lip gloss. and a self-done mani/pedi of course.
i put my shoes and sneakers in the wet compartment of my duffel but if you don't have that i'd put them in a grocery bag of some kind.

sorry for being so "helpful", i am sure you have it all under control! you do realize though that after this post, you HAVE to show us pictures next week ;)

i had no idea you had a thing for greg b....he is totally nice and approachable and has his bad days too. nice to know he isn't a machine!! a week or so ago, we both bailed from masters and spent the time on deck working on our tans(lol) as he gave me some advice on my leg.

I love greg bennett! I already acted all 'stalkerish' with him at NYC so don't worry, he seemed flattered by it.

I would take 'trendy casual' be along the lines of 'business casual' but a little more fun is allowed. Jeans should be okay if they are nice jeans. I think they just don't wnat to see a bunch of people walking around in race t-shirts and running shorts the whole time.

Trendy casual means jeans are definitely OK! I'd wear them with a cute top that's not a t-shirt. Like maybe a pretty not-for-working-out tank top?

Ha! Beth - I love it. Trendy casual is like greek.. just go with it. I would say kackis (ok.. I can't spell) and a cute top of some sort.. once again, I agree..no flip flops. See- they have to say that to us athletes because usually all we BRING to races is workout clothes and jeans nad stuff! They know us all too well. I did attempt to throw in a few nice things for HI, but nothing crazy because it's my vacation and I am NOT dressing up. Hope you are well! Good luck with the outfit selection!

I think you could definitely wear jeans. As long as they are the trendy fitted type of jeans. And a cute top. If you have Nordstrom in Pittsburgh I would just go there.

Sounds very cool, I think I am adding Dallas to my race plan next year!

Good luck finding an outfit, Beth. Dallas is one trendy town, for sure!

When I went to the pro dinner for Kansas 70.3 (which was a fundraiser and that is the ONLY way I got in) I wore a cotton dress from Banana Republic and some nice sandals.

Craig Alexander (holy hotness!) was wearing designer jeans, Diesel tennis shoes, and a overpriced graphic t-shirt. Oh, and I think he had product in his hair.

Simon Lessing had on nice jeans, nice sandals and a nice, black, linen short-sleeve button down.

Sam McGlone was NOT dressed up at all - but looked absolutely adorable in her Zoot t-shirt, denim mini-skirt and flip-flops. :)

Yeah...I would suggest the same as everyone else...jeans, heals, and a dry-clean only top.
