World Records For Everyone!
Can someone explain to me why swimming world records are broken just about any time someone jumps in the pool? This is craziness! Is it really because of the skin/speed suits? I think I need one of these new suits...and then maybe I can swim under 65 seconds for 100 yds. Okay, not quite a world record, but a record FOR ME nonetheless. :)
Anyway, today some running and some riding. I was very motivated to get on my bike as soon as I got home from work. That's sort of unusual as I usually putz around for a good 30 to 40 to 50 to... Okay, sometimes I do "other" things first. :) But today I was all business! Part of it likely has to do with our still beautiful weather and for the fact that after Saturday's ride I have some new, fun roads to ride on.
I was on my road bike again today as Scotty was still in the shop but Scotty is now back in business as O picked him up on his way home from school. Scotty was having issues with his aerobar pads, in that any time I hit any sort of bump, my pads would drop about 2-3 inches! After Steelhead I reached my limit. By the time I was done with the bike that day my elbows were down by my knees! Not very comfortable. So Scotty went off to the shop to get things taken care of. And today he came back with all new pads and aerobar extensions (or whatever they are called). Of course it was the expensive solution but things are MUCH improved now. And because of the change I can actually get a little lower and be a little more aero. And my elbows will stay put!
So now it's back to watching the Olympics. The women's 200 free was just on and guess what? Yep, another world record!

i heard it has something to do with the depth of the pools too...

Yeah, the OLY standard for depth has to be a minimum of 2 meters - in China they made the pool at 3 meters+....that is another reason! MAKES for super fast times for sure! :)

I saw that about the pool also, those sneeky or smart or whatever Chinese really wanted to make the best pool ever in the WATER CUBE. I want a water cube at home.. Anyway, I love watching the Olympics and actually doing some swimming myself, makes me more interested in the swimming poritions of the competition, although my times are so much slower it doesn't even look like the same distance as I do!! I'm always like "They swam that in What!! HOW!!"

in such a technique-driven sport, we're also continually refining, there's still a very steep improvement curve (historically speaking)
