We Are Here
Lovely southwestern Michigan is just as I remember from last year - lovely! The 7+ hour trip yesterday didn't even feel too long. Even when we were running out of gas and the IN turnpike rest stop we stopped at had closed their gas station. OH NO! We got back onto the turnpike and drafted off a huge 18 wheeler until we got to the next exit where we REALLY hoped a gas station would be close by (trust me - IN is very, very rural along their turnpike and we had our worries...) But we made it. Thankfully. :)
Some pictures of our trip in yesterday:
O was giddy with excitement when he saw how "cheap" gas was at home (picture on the left) but even MORE excited when we got to the gas station in IN.
When we did get to Benton Harbor, MI it was around dinner time. So we stopped at Bob Evans where O enjoyed some French toast. He was loving life!
Next we drove to the course. I think this is why I love this race so much. Beautiful Lake Michigan and a picture of the finish line already set up for race day. We also drove the bike course which is just a bit different from last year. Same idea but a few different roads. You still ride through strawberry/blueberry/raspberry growing country!
And finally as the sun was setting we stopped at the cute little downtown to walk around (and of course get some ice cream!). Hard to see us in this picture but we are there.
So that was yesterday! Now we are just finishing eating breakfast at Panera (and using their free internet! :) and are off to the course for some running/swimming/biking/packet pickup/bike racking/etc... You all know the drill!
Race day will be here before I know it! :)
