Cartwheel Joy

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I was going to save the best for last but I just can't...I must scream it from the rooftops...it was 64 degrees here in Pittsburgh today!! And I repeat AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I had heard that it was going to get this warm today but I was very skeptical. Besides the warm temperatures the weather people were also claiming sun and that all seemed like a bit to much for March 3rd. But it was true and so incredibly glorious!

I started off the morning at the pool (great swim by the way) after which I walked outside and it felt SOOOO warm (it was probably in the low 40s by then) that I nearly did a cartwheel across the parking lot! Pure joy! And the sun was just rising and it was incredible. O and I were also treated to a beautiful sunrise on our run Sunday morning. Beautiful bold pinks and purples and dark oranges. Still, in my opinion, one of the best parts of being a triathlete (or a runner for that matter) - you are usually up early enough to catch some amazing sunrises.

Later, at work, I was explaining to my attending physician how happy I was to feel the warmer weather this morning. "I felt like doing a cartwheel I was so happy!" to which he replied "what's a cartwheel?"

Now he's from India so I'm sure he knows what a cartwheel is but just not the English word for it? Or maybe he really doesn't know what a cartwheel is? Either way I had no idea how to explain what a cartwheel is and beyond that I really started to hate the word cartwheel. Like what in the world does a cart have to do with a cartwheel? I guess I can see the wheel part but cart?! After some frustrating attempts at explaining the cartwheel motion I was ready to bust one out in the middle of the hallway (at the hospital) but decided against it. He already thinks I'm crazy enough... :)

I couldn't get through my work day fast enough. I wanted out of that hospital BAD! I couldn't wait to get home and get started on my run.

I usually don't run on Mondays but you just can't let a 64 degree day go by. Plus by running today I have the opportunity to take Friday off and that's exactly what my body is telling me I need right now - a day off!

I ran in shorts and a t-shirt and I definitely didn't need the shirt. IT FELT SO GOOD! I don't know about you guys but my body just feels so much better running in warmer weather. I headed to the YMCA after that to lift and when I left the YMCA at 7 pm it was still warm enough to walk around in shorts and a t-shirt. Oh how that makes me long for summer!

Of course tomorrow morning when I run it's supposed to be in the mid 30s and raining. And more snow is on the way on Wednesday. But today's little slice of heaven was such a blessing I don't even care. Spring really is on the way. Which means racing season is on the way. Which makes me one VERY happy triathlete. So happy, I might just go do a cartwheel.

Loved your cartwheel story. . . too funny. He sounds like a fun-loving MD! How can one get through life having never done a cartwheel? Do guys, unless they are on a gymnastic or cheerleading team, every get to experience the joy of cartwheels?

Beth,

Ooooh I am so jealous! It was cooooooold and wiiiiiiiindy here today! I was froooooooozen!

I'm glad you got to enjoy the run in shorts and t-shirt, and in general, just a really nice day.

See, I would have probably done the cartwheel for the doc and somehow injured myself in the process. That would be clumsy me. I'm glad you refrained and were safe! ;)

very nice...it is supposed to snow here again on wednesday :(...i think that it is even harder to deal with after it has been nice for a couple of days. glad you were able to get out!

I would venture to guess that it's called a cartwheel because you look like the spokes on a wheel (specifically the spokes, not the wheel) when you do one, and maybe when the term was invented there weren't bikes or anything yet, and a cart was the only thing that had spokes. Haha, in any case, good to hear you're so happy.

You guys were due for a little sunshine...glad you got out to enjoy it. We're having an above-40 day and even though it's threatening to rain, I would happily celebrate with cartwheels. Except I doubt if I could do one without causing unnecessary bodily harm!

YEAH!!! How wonderful....much deserved. Yes, we are in the same boat - it was warm here on Sunday (I heard) and then we are getting snow tonight again. COME on spring. Soon. Very soon. :))
