Busy Bee

I have been a busy bee ever since we got back from our trip! Seems like I have lots to do for some reason. Clearly the solution is not going into work for the rest of the week. Oh wait - I already have tomorrow off! :)

The good news is my sister and brother-in-law are coming to visit! Very exciting. They were smart to leave the Pittsburgh weather and move to the south (like my parents) so I don't see them too often. Regardless, I am looking forward to seeing them tomorrow and having them stay for a few days. I did warn them to beware of their socks when they are in our house though - as we own one sock eating beast named Roxy.

Anyway, my workouts for the day...

Started things off with a swim - the long swim of the week - and I'm glad to say it's been my best long swim to date!

4500 yds total @YMCA
wu: 300 easy, 300 kick, 6x50 w/20 sec rest alt back/breast
ms: 3x800 w/1 min rest (11:06, 10:59, 10:59), 6x150 w/20 sec rest as 100 fast/50 moderate (2:02, 2:03, 2:02, 2:02, 2:02, 2:01)
cd: 300 easy

Now I have to admit; the idea of 3x800 did not thrill me. But yesterday when I was running I decided on a good goal pace for them (~11:20 or 1:25/100 yd) and swam with the idea of them being "tempo" instead of all out. I focused on smooth and strong but relaxed and when the first one went by in 11:06 I knew I was going to be okay. I felt good the entire workout which is NOT usually the case on Wednesdays. Not that I was fatigued by the end, but I still felt good. Good sign! It may be because yesterday's swim workout was a little more tame than usual or because I'm finally starting to get used to the longer swims or because I set out on the long intervals with a little more control or (most likely) a combination of all the above. Whatever the reason, I was pleased with the workout!

This afternoon after work I did my usual 30 min easy run and lifting session. When I was running what looked to be about a 10 year old kid yelled out "Run Forest, Run!". I wanted to tell him that that was the most original saying I had ever heard, but kept my mouth shut. He then proceeded to yell "nice legs!" at which point I wanted to tell him that I was about 20 years older than him and could be his mother. Again, I just kept my mouth shut. Kids these days... :)

So now it's really time to get the laundry folded. Big training day tomorrow. Although they all seem big to me sometimes. (I know I've said that before...) Regardless I've decided I'm doing my 40 mile ride OUTSIDE tomorrow regardless of the weather. My tires are pumped and my fluid replacement is made up - there is no backing down now! :)

Well, Roxy didn't eat our socks, but she was a little beastly the first day. We still had fun with you guys though!
