The Bod Pod
Wanna hear something really funny? The Bod Pod makes a body composition machine for children (small size of course) that's called...wait for it...The Pea Pod! That is hilarious!
Bod Pod results - my % body fat is 13.3%
I really didn't know what to expect nor did I really care that much but I was glad to get it because it's kind of neat to know. I was curious how it compared to previous measurements (as both an athlete and nutrition/exercise physiology student at Penn State I had ample opportunity do do stuff like the Bod Pod, underwater weighing, etc...) so when I got home I checked it out.
The last time I was in the Bod Pod was during my senior year in 2001. I got my body fat checked that spring during my final track season and it was 14.9%. After college I was involved in a study out of Stanford that required me to get DEXA scans once a year. Although the study was not looking at body fat % (it was a study about bone mineral density in female runners) the results always showed body fat % as well. The last DEXA I got was in the summer of 2003 and my body fat % was 17.3%.
I certainly don't follow an incredibly strict diet (ie: I eat chocolate and pizza and french fries and cookies and cake) so my conclusion is that if you want to lower your body fat % all you have to do is become a triathlete!

Hi, I am really interested in body fat percent and I never believe those calipers. Is a bod pod available for the general public to measure body fat? is a DEXA scan expensive? Have you been underwater weighted? I have always wanted to know my true body fat percentage. Also, as a nutritionist do you worry about eating fries? I adore fries (and cake) but I do feel guilty when i indulge. You must be incredibly lean to have 13% body fat, that is impressive!
